Blue Marsh Lake

RESCHEDULED A beautiful loop around Blue Marsh Lake, a bit of a hike but worth doing a couple times a year. This is a long loop (~23 miles) with a lot of climbing. It is a circle around the lake so there are no shortcuts back, so be prepared. There is no particular rush, just no way to make it any shorter. One of the last sections is nicknamed "cramp alley" for a reason. The trails are a mix of single and doubletrack, nothing very difficult by itself, just a longish loop.

There is of course at least one long snack break, and pace is moderate as always. We'll be starting at 9:30 from the visitor's center (http://tinyurl.com/5ltnj5)

    Thanks for an awesome ride Jeff. That place was sick. Glad I bailed early or I might still be there. Got on the scale, lost 4 pounds. What a fun group.

    Huge kudos to everyone that came out, it was a great time! But it was still a bear of a ride. I had some trouble getting up the steps when I got home...

    Weather says we are good to go. Remember, starting from the visitor's center (look for the sign) not boat launch or beach. Follow the map link in the description. Call or text me if any issues.

    Note to NJ residents, Ben Franklin bridge will be closed Sunday morning until 7:30 or 8 depending on which sign you read. probably best to avoid it to be safe.

    Dear Folks: Family obligations; both children born in July; preclude me from going. Risk of death for ignoring their birthdays.

    @jeff... Full suspension or single?

    July 9

    • Jeff M.

      The trail is not technical, so single is good if you can crank it up the hills. I will be on the full since my knees have been unhappy lately.

    Forecast right now for Sunday is hot and humid. But that's a week away so forecast is not very reliable. Stay tuned here for updates. Any cancel due to weather will be here at 6:30 AM Sunday.

    Jeff, Which direction is better? Clockwise or counter ? also is there any water refill stations ?

    July 1

    • Jeff M.

      Clockwise is better, in my opinion. You climb up the doubletrack washouts and descend the singletrack. I do not know of any water refill points. Some folks will park a car at the Church Road lot with a water stash in it, I've never bothered since I carry 3 liters.
