Capital by John Lancaster

The residents of Pepys Road, London - a banker and his shopaholic wife, an old woman dying of a brain tumour, a family of Pakistani shop owners, the young football star from Senegal and his minder - all receive an anonymous postcard one day with a simple message: We Want What You Have. Who is behind it? What do they want?

As the mystery of the postcards deepens, the world around Pepys Road is turned upside down by the financial crash and all of its residents' lives change beyond recognition over the course of the next year.

I have come down with a horrible cold - just can't make it this evening. Enjoyed the book although I felt it ran out of steam at the end. Like me today!

So the results from the poll are in... Capital by John Lancaster 4 votes
Out stealing horses by Per Petterson 1 vote
The Book of Salt by Monique Truong 2 votes
Gun Machine by Warren Ellis 0 votes
A working theory of love by Scott Hutchins 3 votes So in May we will read Capital, and I thought maybe in June we could read A working Theory of Love as that came in second. I'll start another poll next week, which will include Stephanie's suggestion of The Life of Pi, so do let me know if theres anything you want to suggest. L x

Ah perfect! I won't be able to make this one but will be able to make the next one. Could you take The Book of Salt - my suggested book - off the potentials list for May in that case? I'll resuggest it for when I can make the meetup! :P Xx

The Book of Salt by Monique Truong is quite good. I'm about a third of the way through so can't vouch for the ending but am thinking it's good so far.
