4th Sunday Monthly Jam - at Doug & Linda's

4th Sunday of every month jam.  The RSVP window is set to open 21 days before the next meetup at 12 noon. That way people can plan farther out.  The meetup software doesn't seem to allow me to set an automatic reminder before the RSVP window opens.  I will try to remember to do so manually but it's now in your power to remind yourself when RSVPs for the next jam begin. Also, anyone else wanting to host a jam knows what dates are already claimed.

On arrival we were informed by Nora that even though she was not taking up a seat in the circle, since my girlfriend Betty does not sing or play, we were no longer welcome to attend her Meet-Up group.
Apparently we violated one of her rules. We wish the rest of you all the best, keep having fun with your music.

With limited space I can see where non participants would take up space that players would like to use, spaces that are at a premium. It's a difficult thing to manage as I have seen this adversely affect other jams. Maybe standing or sitting out of the circle in the background would work. We create some lovely music at times, i can see wanting to share that. I for one appreciate your organizing this Nora, so what ever you set up is fine by me.

Nora, that 3 times rule seems so kind and more than fair. As they say "its hard to please all of the people all of the time"

I think we played too loud initially and tended to drown out the person leading. After being reminded, it was better, but actually there fewer players present. Maybe we got carried away with enthusiam to play. Banjo was too loud
But i still enjoyed the jam in spite of.

    Doug,

I think I left a pair of Ray Ban glasses. Is there a convenient time today (Monday) for me to come by and pick them up?

Thanks again for a great Jam!

Edward, I will be in and out today so I'll leave the sunglasses, both pairs, on the bench on my front porch. Maybe the other owner of lost sunglasses will see this and stop by for theirs too.

Two jams made for more options, which was great. Glad accommodation was made for the wait list in this way. It was a bigger, longer chat/break time, but there were more to get to know one another. In all, a really good music day!

What kinds of things do people play? Is there a songlist of songs popular with this group? : )

    February 22

    • Douglas K.

Anything, we've had folk, pop, rock, jazz, show tunes, comedic songs, ethnic, original compositions and stuff I don't know how categorize.

      February 22

    • Nora

Essentially, we're actually a pretty musically diverse and inclusive group!

    • anita

thanks, Nora....have a great couple of months and i will see you in the spring!

      February 19

Do bear in mind, folks- any member can initiate a jam Meetup here if they have three or more people signed up. So don't hesitate to start spawning your own! Jams are not enormous at Doug's- traditionally only 15. Parks are another alternative space for jammers. Just a few thoughts/ alternatives. I will probably have some jams soon at my house, too. Thanks!

  • Richard B.

There's a bunch of us out here in the wait list. If you are marked as attending, and you find can't come, change your RSVP quickly. I've seen too many metups with a waitlist that end up with less than fifteen people actually attending because a some jammers either don't remove their names or do so minutes before the meet.

  • Jay S.

Hi folks, System just reminded me I'm still on the waiting list (in 1st place). So please, if any of you holding reservations know you won't attend, please change your RSVP.

    • Jonathan B.

There you go, Jay. I'm out, so you should be in! Have a great time and catch y'all the next time around.

    • Nora

Such a gentleman. Thank you, Jonathan!

      February 18

  • Carol M. B.

Wow! The invitation said there were 14 spots left, just now. Now, I'm on the wait list! Something needs to catch up! Would love to go!

    February 4

    • Nora

Yeah, I think Meetup sometimes sends quite outdated messages regarding announcements. Just know from now until Doug tires of it, he's going to have a jam at his house the fourth Sunday of every month, so mark it on your calendar!

      February 5

  • Carol M. B.

Is there a way, closer to the event, that we can know how far down on the wait list we are?

    February 4

    • Nora

Hi, Carol- The way to know how far down on the wait list you are is to get here to the site and scroll down to below the r.s.v.p's to the actual wait list. People get automatically added in line as you see who is visually at the top. The main problem is if someone on the wait list adds a friend. That can clog up the movement of the whole system, which is what stalled things at the last jam, oddly leaving one spot available with a number of people on the wait list.

      February 5

  • Jay S.

yes, the site always shows where we stand on the wait list, and you can check the site any time.

    February 4

  • Richard B.

Doug, The entire list of upcoming jams are all labeled "February Jam - 4th Sunday - at Doug & Linda's". perhaps you could change them to say " 4th Sunday Monthly Jam". I'm really surprised I hit the wait list. I checked the site, went out to repair my wife's car, and went to bed. The next morning I received an email about the meeup and it was already full. Richard

    • Douglas K.

Thanks Richard, I changed the name. Future meetups should have a delay between announcement and the RSVP window opening.

      January 31

  • Jay S.

me too -- so, please, if any of you on the list find you can't attend, just change your RSVP on this meet-up website, so those of us on the wait-list will automatically move up in order to fill your space.

  • Bruce and Renata F.

oops - looks we already landed on the "wait" list - please let Doug know if you cannot make it. We'd really like to join the fun!
