New Meetup: August Jam: Buddy Up!

Announcing a new Meetup for South Pasadena Acoustic Musicians!

What: August Jam: Buddy Up!

When: Tuesday, August 31,[masked]:45 PM

Where: Don Byrd's House
5105 Williams Place
Los Angeles, CA 90032

Howdy, folks! Once again, we've got our monthly jam here upon us! This time I'd like to throw out an OPTIONAL thematic that is for those who wish to use the idea for the opportunity to progress their musicianship and forge new friendships in the group. It's "Buddy Up" time! (Sorry to sound like Barney the purple dinosaur here, but heck; it gets your attention...) :*}

What's this idea/theme? Glad you asked. It's to link up with someone else in the group to work up one or two songs to play at the next jam. I'm going to ramp this up a notch- how 'bout we do our best to actually memorize that song? Find a person whom you've connected with, arrange a safe, public place to practice (a park is all I can think of at the moment, folks), and get it together! Then bring your wonderful duet or trio or whatnot back to our jam and share your arrangement. Simple as that. Whad'ya say?

The usual "song circle format" is what we employ in our jams. That is, each person gets to have the option of initiating one song if they choose to do so, or pass, moving along the circle of folks clockwise. With a group of ten to fifteen, you might expect to have at least three times to initiate a song, or more, given the duration of songs, passes, and how long we prevail.

Please bring any libation or food item you might like to share, and hopefully, a buck to defray cost of the Meetup. Just a buck. Not bad for a jam.

So practice up, find a buddy, try to memorize the tune, and come prepared to move from "I used to play but now I don't and never practice so I'm not comfortable playing" to "Heck, not only did I memorize this song, but I've coordinated with another person with whom I can play! How's that for improvement?"

The location is currently being determined, from at least three sources, but for present, I'm posting Don's address until I hear another confirmation. I will post the "final", determined location as soon as it's nailed down, k? But I just wanted to get this on your calendars. Hope to see/ hear you there and enjoy the sense of community by playing in our jam together! Cheers, Nora.
