Club Member (Liz's - Kent) Meetup - Italian Potluck and Recycled Birdbaths

  • Aug 24, 2013 · 11:00 AM

Liz has graciously offered to host our group for a fun time eating and creating some recycled Birdbaths. This meeting will be a potluck, so be sure to bring a side dish. The potluck theme is Italian as Liz just got back from a three week trip to Italy. She will have a montage of photos displayed for the group to see her wonderful trip.

For those interested in making a recycled birdbath, please bring a colorful plate, bowl or teacup/saucer set. As we get closer to date, Liz will have more details for supplies to bring (pipe, adhesive and bushings) if you are interested in making these type of birdbaths. Liz will also have some supplies for sale to make these birdbaths and will have the cost shortly if anyone is interested in buying them from her.

Mapquest and Google Earth has incorrect location so here are directions to Liz's house. Please contact her for phone number through email on this site if you need more information.

After spending over an hour driving around and a 1/2 tank of gas, never found S 289th Way. Even asked 4 cops - 2 Maple Valley, 1 Kent and a SeaTac (no idea why he was out there) and none could find these streets on their maps. I just came home. . .

This sounded like a fun project, will you please instructions. I have all the stuff.

Katherine, I'm sorry you couldnt find my house. Mollie had the idea og the project. Make sure you use outdoor adhesive. Liquid nails for outdoor was suggested but I used silicon for doors/windows. It may not be strong enough so try the liq nails. I found the sunflower bowl at value village....you never know what may be at the thrift shops. Hope to see you at the next get together.

Hi Liz, it happens. What surprised me was the cops couldn't! Hope you never need them. Your sunflower is very pretty. Thank you for the tip. I got a cheap plate at the dollar store but I think I'm going to check value village this weekend to see if I can find something a little prettier.

OH...dress casual as my yard is still not finished with a major landscape project and there is dirt & gravel to dodge. I'm fixing Salmon for the main course, Italian style of course. I also have a batch of Limoncello that I made to share if you are interested. (you don't want to have much and drive....it's potent)

Here's a list of items you'll need for the birdbath/feeder project:
teacup and saucer, or bowl or plate (get from a garage sale or Value Village or one you have that you like), sandpaper (about 80 grit)
There are a few ways to make the stands:
    1. 1/2" or 3/4" copper or PVC pipe about 2-4 feet long and the end cap to match
    2. Wooden dowel with 1/2-1" diameter about 2-4 feet long and a glass bud vase (again, a great pick up at Value Village)

I'll have the adhesive to share as I don't think we'll use a whole tube.
You may want to bring some plastic gloves (like dr's or food service kind) to keep the adhesive off your skin. I'll probably have extra sandpaper so don't worry if you forget yours.

Very busy summer. Too many plants to take care of, but I love it. I hope to meetup with the group next time.
