Wilderness Skills is designed to prepare you for hiking or backpacking in the forests, mountains, and trails of the Pacific Northwest. This course is also the foundation or first Module for the Alpine Scrambling Course and the Basic Climbing Courses with the Olympia Branch of the Mountaineers. It consists of 1 evening lecture and 2 Saturday session including outdoor exercises.
Wilderness Skills provides you with information and hands on experience with the top twenty+ topics considered important for safe adventures in the backcountry. The lectures include practical tips and personal experiences to help you get started or to expand your outdoor abilities. They also include interactive presentations and opportunities to learn and practice wilderness skills. You will also be able to examine an assortment of clothing and equipment as well as enjoy visual presentations of recent trips through Washington’s breathtakingly beautiful backcountry. Student participation and interaction are encouraged.
Cost: $50 per person or $90 for a family of four. Mountaineer members with a current membership are $25 per person or $60 for a family of four.
