10km rated 2 for approximately 2km of moderately steep up and down hills. The balance of the walk is nice and easy along the waterfront. After registering you will drive 2.4 miles to the start at Donkey Creek Park. Walk on sidewalks past a museum, visitor's center, numerous parks with restrooms, viewing points, shops, eateries, lovely older homes, marinas, and for those with a thirst, the famous Tides Tavern.
McDonald's, the normal Gig Harbor walk starting point, is under
construction for an extensive re-model. It is impractical to use it to register for the walk. The Fred Meyer store in the Olympic Village Center has been kind enough to let us use their facilities to register for this walk. The Fred Meyer store is on the other side of the
parking lot directly across from McDonald's. When you enter the Olympic
Village Center from Olympic Drive, turn right. Fred Meyer will be a short distance from that turn. It will be on the right (parking area will be on your left). We will be using the tables in the food court area which is in the front part of the building next to the deli and Tully's coffee bar.
This is AVA walk Y1234. Dogs OK with leash and cleanup of course. No dogs in buildings.
Lunch? We'll decide along the route.
