Announcing a new Meetup for South Sound Walkers Meetup Group!
What: Tumwater Historic Parks 11K Walk
When: Wednesday, March 10, 2010 9:00 AM
Where:
Tumwater Safeway
520 Cleveland Ave SE
Olympia, WA 98501
Tumwater was founded next to the falls of the Deschutes River at the south end of Puget Sound as New Market in 1846 by a group of pioneers led by Michael Simmons and George Bush (no relation ;). It was the first American settlement on Puget Sound. These early pioneers were attracted by the water-power potential of the falls, the easy access to Budd Inlet for shipping and the open prairie land in the rea for cattle grazing.
Our walk goes through Tumwater Falls Park, Watershed Park and the area between. It is a volkssport year round event rated 2+ for some minor inclines and natural trails. It's 11K -- 6.8 miles. Be sure you can walk this in distance in 2 1/2 hrs or less.
Dogs are welcome, but not in buildings. Leash and cleanup, of course.
Lunch, anyone? We'll decide this while we walk.
If anyone wants to carpool from Puyallup, call Sandy Dunterman, [masked], or email her at [address removed].
