South Bay Ramblers Hiking Group Pages

The South Bay Ramblers Hiking Group, while new to Meet-up, has been in existance since 2005 and has been offering community hikes twice monthly since that time. As a member of the South Bay Ramblers Hiking Group, you can attend the twice monthly hikes and invite a friend or your partner along. Our twice monthly hikes are for both men and women. The hikes are friendly and welcoming. We currently have a great, fun, diverse group of active members involved in the hikes. To view our full schedule and view our past hikes and photos, you may wish to visit our main website at http://www.southbayra....

Please read our Hiking Disclaimer before joining the South Bay Ramblers Hiking Group. By joining this group, you agree to all the terms and conditions of this waiver.

Membership Dues:

Please Note: In order for us to organize our hiking group on the meetup site, we ask for a very reasonable membership due of just $12.00 for 12 months. This fee helps us pay a hosting fee (charged by The Meetup Organization) and to cover other organizational fees and the time required to run a group. We also want to encourage active participation in group and encourage our members to consider leading us on a hike or organize an event. Lead us on just one hike or event per year and your membership dues will be waived.

Organizing takes a lot of personal time and effort, commitment and obligation to show up rain or shine, plus it costs the organizers $$ to maintain the website. It's only $12.00 a year to show that you intend to be an active member of the group.

Also please note: We do not offer refunds (no exceptions) once the membership or event fees have been paid.

Good RSVP/attendance etiquette

  • Initial RSVP: It is courteous to accept or decline an invitation within a few days of receiving it. This helps with event planning and provides valuable feedback to the organizers.
  • Update your RSVP as soon as your plans change. If that's within 24 hours of the event, you should also contact the organizer personally via email (contact link under organizers photo) or phone.
  • If you RSVPed 'Yes', you show up to the event. If you can't show up, change your RSVP accordingly and explain to the Organizer why you couldn't attend.
  • If you RSVPed 'No', you should not attend the event, unless you change your RSVP to 'Yes' if space allows.
  • Double booking: It is not possible to be in 2 places at once so make sure you check your calendar carefully before RSVP'ing to an event!! With the automated waiting lists (see below for more info) now available on meetup, please pay special attention so that you do not inadvertently double book yourself.
  • Holding spots until the last minute then not attending is not only rude, but impacts the ability for other members (that can commit to attending) from coming. If this happens repeatedly it could lead to removal from the group.

      Q&A

    • What do I do if there is no space and would like to attend?

    • Join the waiting list - the system will automatically send you an email when spots open up.
    • If a spot opens up and you still would like to attend the event, then change your RSVP.
    • If at any time you decide that you no longer wish to come to the event you can remove yourself from the waiting list by changing your RSVP to No.
    • If you do not wish to get an email each time a spot opens up, it is still useful for the organizers if you express your interest in coming by RSVP'ing No with a comment expressing interest. You can then look back as the event draws closer and sign up if spots are available.

Grounds for Removal from the Group

      - Non-payment of Membership Dues and inactivity (no attendance to a hike/event in a 3 month period)
      - More than 3 "no shows" to events or constantly holding a spot and canceling at the last minute.

Thanks so much for your membership and support.
