About Long Ridge Open Space Preserve: The vast and ever changing terrain at Long Ridge Open Space makes for some of the finest views in the area. The park is a 2035 acre open space preserve that consists of approximately 13 miles of hiking and biking trails to explore.
Hike Description: The hike began on Long Ridge Trail and Road, Ward Road, and Hickory Oaks Trail during which we will passed through both forest and grassland and enjoyed a view of the early morning fog. On a clear day, there are great views all the way to the ocean from the open areas. We finished on the Peters Creek Trail through a wooded canyon. This hike was 7 miles in length and 1400 feet elevation gain.
Driving Directions: From Hwy 85 N or 280 N, take the Saratoga Avenue exit. Turn left at Saratoga Avenue. Turn left at Big Basin Way and continue on to Congress Springs Road. Bear left at CA-9. Turn right at Skyline Blvd. Arrive at Long Ridge open space preserve. The hike begins and ends at the Grizzly Flat trailhead, 3.6 miles north of the Hwy 9/35 junction, near the Palo Alto city limits sign and 3.3 miles south of the intersection of Page Mill Road Skyline. Parking: There is a fairly large FREE parking area at the side of the road.
Carpool Info: Meet at 4th Street in Saratoga (located behind the Plumbed Horse Restaurant) at 8 AM. From Highway 9 in Saratoga, turn right on 4th Street. Parking lot is on the right side.
