Mt Tamalpais Loop

8 mile loop around Mt Tam in Marin County. We'll start at Pantoll and hike the Matt Davis trail to Stinson Beach, passing thru woods and grasslands, with views encompassing the headlands, San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the San Mateo coast. We turn around at Stinson Beach (a good lunch spot) and head back into a dense redwood canyon on the famous Steep Ravine trail, passing waterfalls and climbing the ladder.

Carpool: Meet at the Page Mill Road/Arastradero Road/280 Park and Ride at 7:30 am.

DIRECTIONS: cross the Golden Gate Bridge, and continue on highway 101 to the CA 1/Mill Valley/Stinson Beach exit. You'll go back under the freeway, and follow this road, Shoreline Highway, for about a mile, to the junction with Almonte. Turn left (it should be signed). At about 2.5 miles, follow the signs, and go right, on to Panoramic Highway. Follow this winding road, past the Mt. Home Restaurant, and Rock Spring parking/picnic area, to the Pan Toll Ranger Station on the left. Park in the lot and meet near the restrooms.

Really beautiful views and trails - the mist in the air made it all the more enchanting. Thank you Marcia and Lori for a lovely morning and afternoon at Mt. Tam. Mike and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I'm really bummed I missed it. But made up for it today and hiked in Huddard Park above Woodside. It was a good climb!

I really enjoyed this hike. The terrain is very different from the other places we've hiked. There is abundant vegetation all around. I suggest a late spring hike next year so we can experience the wildflowers. Thanks to Marcia and Lori.

Sorry I missed the beautiful hike. Was going on Panorama Hwy, wrapped in fog forever without seeing the Altamont exit and GPS was not helping due to altitude. Finally gave it up for fear of accident. Thanks Lori, for your phone call, by that time I was too ratttled to try it again !

Really like Mt. Tam area and hiking in the fog did give the forest a very magical look. It was such a treat to have lunch on the beach, and loved how green it looked in the forest. Happy to share the experience with a great group of hikers. Thank you Lori and Marcia!

Marcia and Lori, thank you for leading such a wonderful hike. Each park the Ramblers visit is unique and Mt. Tam is really a special one. The hike down to the beach and trek back up along the stream with lush vegetation was a joy to experience with everyone.

That has to be one of the most beautiful hikes that we have ever done. The Fern grove was majestic and the lichen that hung off the trees made it feel as if we were in a fairy tail. Thanks Lori and Marcia!

Becky, I'll be at the carpool spot. I will ride with you if I can have the front seat (sorry, get carsick). If not, I'm happy to drive, and if we need more than one driver, then we can both drive.

Anyone interested in carpooling? I can stop by Page Mill Rd. carpool location. Have room for two more passengers.

This is one of my favorite hikes, but I'm going to have to cancel. I hope you all have great weather!

For the GPS, try 1393 Panoramic Hwy, Mill Valley. This is the nearby Pantoll campground. Keep an eye out for the Ranger station, that's where the hike parking lot is.

Lori, thanks for posting. Charlie's still on summer vacation so we may plan a last minute trip but will join you all if I'm otherwise available. Have fun.

Sorry, should have posted more hike description. This is a moderate hike with about 1,500 of elevation gain on the return leg. It's a little steep, not too bad, with most of the elevation occurring over 1.5 miles. It's so pretty you won't notice the climb!
