Old Cove Bluff Trail at Wilder Ranch

Wilder Ranch State Historic Park encompasses an agricultural preserve of Brussels sprout fields and the cultural preserve of the former Wilder Ranch. The buildings, barn, gardens, and Victorian house are all open to the public. The 8+ mile trail heads coastward on an old ranch road, then turns north along the bluff tops, offering a birds-eye view of the surf and harbor seals resting on the rocks off shore. It then follows ranch roads past pocket beaches, retreating inland now and then to bypass deep gullies.

Driving Directions: Take Highway 17 to Santa Cruz and head north towards Half Moon Bay on Highway 1. About 4 miles after passing thru town, watch for the Wilder Ranch sign, where you'll turn left into the park. This is a State Park so there is a parking fee.

Carpool Info: Meet at 8:10 a.m. at the Los Gatos Park and Ride. To get to the Los Gatos parking take highway 17 south and exit to the right on Los Gatos-Saratoga Road (Highway 9). Continue on this road just past the intersection of University Ave.  Look for a free unlimited parking sign on the right and turn into the parking lot. If you reach N Santa Cruz Ave you have gone too far.

Optional Lunch Afterwards at Kelly's at 402 Ingalls. Just as you enter town on Hwy 1 coming from Wilder, turn right onto Swift St., then 2nd left onto Ingalls.

A gorgeous morning for a walk along the coast. The flocks of birds were amazing and I always enjoy sitting above 4 Mile Beach for our snack. The usual great group of fellow hikers, too! And relaxing at Kelly's afterwards was an added treat!

A State Park pass is not required to get into the park-you can just pay the daily fee at the kiosk. But, passes can be purchased at parks.ca.gov
