WILDER RANCH BLUFFS TRAIL

HIKE DESCRIPTION:This is an easy, fairly flat hike along the top of the bluffs along the dramatic Davenport shoreline, with acres of brussel sprout fields spreading out to the east. We'll pass a seal rookery, sandy beaches, and soaring birds. This is an out and back hike, so we can turn around whenever we're ready. A good spot for a snack break is by taking a spur trail down to Fern Grotto Beach, where a fern cave is hidden at the back of a snady, U-shaped cove.

An option for lunch afterwards at Kelly's French Bakery.

DIRECTIONS: drive over 17 to Santa Cruz, and go north on highway 1 towards Half Moon Bay. Once thru town, drive about 4 miles to the park entrance on the left. There is a $10 park fee and restrooms at the large main parking lot.

Carpool Info: Meet at 8:15 a.m. at the Los Gatos Park and Ride. From Highway 17, exit on Saratoga/Los Gatos Road. It's located between University Ave & Santa Cruz Ave. It's the Northeast lot. It's hard to miss. You should see other people and cars (as usual, I won't be there).

It was my first hike at Wilder Ranch and I thought it was beauiftul. The ocean, the sandstone, and the ferm grotto, made for a lovely seascape. Thank you, Marcia, for a wonderful hike!

An exceptionally beautiful trail along the ocean, the vivid colors of the ocean and the sky, the intricate rock formations; wish I know how to paint. Thanks, Clint, for the beautiful pictures and Marcia for the hike.

Wow! It was so breathtaking on those bluffs! The smell of sea air was incredible and the sky couldn't be bluer. The pelicans were out in full force. I took the long way home up Route 1 - heavenly. Thanks, Marcia!

Good idea. Also, plan on allowing a little extra time to find it if you haven't been to the carpool location before. I won't be at the carpool as we are bringing some guests and have a full car.

Hi Dawn: FYI and for new comers, just knowing the car pool location and time may not be enough. I missed carpool last time. It looks like we need to post our interest in carpooling on this bulletin board.
