HIKE DESCRIPTION: Phleger Estate and Huddart Park are both pretty second growth redwood forests.
The hike will start at the Zwierlein picnic area in Huddart park. We'll hike the Crystals Spring Trail to the Spur Trail to Richard's Road Trail to the Miramontes Trail which will put us into Phleger Estate. We will continue on the Miramontes Trail to the Mount Redondo Trail to the Lonely Trail up to Skyline Blvd; then we'll re-enter Huddart Park and hike back down to the Zwierlen picnic area by way of Richard's Road Trail to the Crystal Springs Trail to the Dean Trail stopping at Mc Garvey flat for lunch then continuing on the Dean Trail to the Zwierlen picnic area. The hike will be 8 miles with approximately 1900 feet total elevation gain. Most of the elevation gain is in the first half of the hike and is somewhat relentlessly up. It is shaded most of the way. This is a moderately strenuous hike and should take 4-5 hours.
DIRECTIONS:When coming to Huddart from the north (San Francisco ) or the south (San Jose), use Highway 280. Take the Woodside Road (Highway 84) exit. Turn westbound (towards Woodside). Proceed approximately 1.5 miles through Woodside. Turn right onto Kings Mountain Road. Proceed up the hill on Kings Mountain Road approximately 2.1 miles to the Huddart Park entrance on the right (at .8 miles from Woodside Road you need to veer to the right to stay on Kings Mountain Road).
There is a $6.00 fee per car to get into Huddart Park. You pay the fee at the ranger's kiosk or, if no one is in the kiosk, just past the kiosk on the right is a self-serve pay area.
Once you pass the ranger's kiosk go straight through the first stop sign toward Zwierlein Area. Take the next right towards Zwierlein Area, then just before the restroom is a parking lot for the Zwierlein Trailhead. We'll meet at this parking lot at 9:00 a.m.

CAR POOL: I will be coming from the North so you will need to figure out the car pool location if you are coming from the South. The Arastradero Park and Ride works well.
