Page-Turners Book Club July Meeting

Page-Turner's is a new, recently formed book group currently open to new members. For now we are meeting the last Thursday of each month at Orchard Valley Coffee in Campbell. Our reading list through September 2014 is listed below.

July's Book: " Light Between The Oceans" By M.L. Stedman

About the Book: Amazon Best Books of the Month, August 2012: Tom Sherbourne is a lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, a tiny island a half day’s boat journey from the coast of Western Australia. When a baby washes up in a rowboat, he and his young wife Isabel decide to raise the child as their own. The baby seems like a gift from God, and the couple’s reasoning for keeping her seduces the reader into entering the waters of treacherous morality even as Tom--whose moral code withstood the horrors of World War I--begins to waver. M. L. Stedman’s vivid characters and gorgeous descriptions of the solitude of Janus Rock and of the unpredictable Australian frontier create a perfect backdrop for the tale of longing, loss, and the overwhelming love for a child that is The Light Between Oceans.

Upcoming Books and Meeting Dates Through September 2014:

August 28, "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes

September 25, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou

I have decided that I should not come to the session tonight because I have no idea whether I can walk without assistance since I have already collapsed once today. I'm sorry to miss the discussion because I'd love to hear what other people thought about where Lucy should end up. I thought to book was beautifully written. I am still mourning for Tom and Isabel.

We'll miss you Brooks! Hope you feel better soon! I enjoyed the book and thought that Lucy should have ended up with her mother, although it was a difficult for both of them. See you next time!

I am a maybe for tonight. If I can get my husband to get me there and back I will come. I have been having spine problems and had a procedure done on my spine yesterday. Both yesterday before the procedure and today after the procedure I have not been able to walk by myself. I'm walking around my house now. I'm going to practice walking and hope that I will be there.
If not have a great group.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night. Since parking can be difficult in Campbell, I wanted to let you know there are always spaces in the 1st St garage. It's at corner of 1st Street & Rincon St. That's where I'll park.

FYI I started the Luminaries twice and got really bogged down. Maybe 3rd time is a charm.

Floating in My Mother's Palm (192 pages paperback) by Ursula Hegi (this was written before Stones from the River, but it is set after and can be read before or after. (If people would prefer to (re-)read Stones from the River instead of any of the 3, that would be OK with me too.

Hi Debra. I think submitting the book choices here would be a good idea. That way people could have time to read up on the books. Thanks for making the picks!

    Hi Jeremy,
I have 3 choices. I can bring them next Thursday. Would you prefer I submit them here?

    Hi Ladies
Looking forward to our meeting next Thursday. I wanted to touch base about the book choice for October. The last I recall we had decided to rotate book choices among members. I think that either Debra or Cathy was going to bring 3 book choices to the next meeting for us to choose from? Sorry I don't recall exactly. Let me know if I am remembering correctly, and if so who was scheduled to bring books. Want to make sure we stay ahead. Thanks!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
