We'll shop the Ferry Building Marketplace and the Saturday Farmers Market, have lunch, then walk to the TCHO chocolate factory for a tour and tasting.
Meet: Meet at the Ferry Building at 10:30 am. Meet in front of the silver spaceship art work a little to the right of the Building (as you are looking at the water).
Shop: We'll shop till about noon then stow our purchases in the car. List of shops here www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com, plus the outdoor farmers market is set up on Saturday. I'll bring a cooler for the car where we can put purchases. If you drive yourself, consider doing the same. They also have a vegie valet, but they might close at 2 before we get back from the tour.
Lunch: Lunch will be at MarketBar at 12:15. On weekends, they have a more limited brunch menu, which includes both breakfast and lunch items, but I think there is enough on it to keep everyone happy. See menu here www.marketbar.com.
TCHO Tour: TCHO makes excellent chocolate and they have a one hour tour of their factory and store located on Pier 17. Tour starts at 2 and we need to arrive by 1:50. It's a short walk from the Ferry Building. It is not an extensive factory, so the actual tour is pretty short, but you learn a lot about chocolate making and get to sample (yay!). They do have some specifics you need to know: NO open-toed shoes; NO jewelry, watches, or any loose objects, including cameras and cellphones (can be put in pockets); NO backpacks or purses, you will be required to leave them in a bin. I plan to leave mine in the car with my shopping purchases and just carry my lunch money and phone in my pocket. TCHO will provide a har net and earplugs, which must be worn.
Carpool: Meet at the 280/Arastradero/Page Mill park and ride at 9:15 am. I will drive for sure and can take up to five passengers. Maybe leave a comment if you plan to carpool so we know who to expect. We might need another driver, so I'll bring a map and written driving instructions.
Parking: I plan to park at the 75 Howard Garage (from Embarcadero, heading north towards the Ferry Building, turn left on Howard, you can't miss it on your left). On Farmers Market days, the first four hours are a flat rate of $6 and it is self-park, so we can find the car later to put stuff in. Each 30 minutes after is $6, so I think total will be about $24, which carpoolers can share. Other parking options, are the surface lot at the corner of Embarcadero and Washington, although there are limited spaces and I'm not sure of price. Also may be full by the time we get there. The Golden Gateway garage is located at Washington/Clay/Drumm/Battery and costs $7 per hour.
