Rendezvous with "760" and "Petrol-Heads" at a The Waterfront on Kettner for Breakfast. From there ride to Motorsport Vespa for a look at new scoots and accessories. Interesting event. Not as many scooters as I thought there would be. Marta, Bud and I met at The Waterfront. We then rode to Motorsport Vespa. Marta departed Motorsport, and headed back to Hesperia. Bud and I rode to Point Loma, where we hooked up with Carl, from Petrol-Heads. The main AmeriVespa activities were being held at Portuguese Hall, directly across the street from Carl's place. After walking the venue, we went to a nearby pub and swilled beer. In all, a great day!

It isn't like MSILSF hasn't tried to reach out to the vintage radicals.

Lori, to answer your question Amerivespa is a mega scooter rally, not a normal run of the mill BCSC local ride. I would guess that the guys you saw cruising on Beach Blvd will be there, as will scooter groups from all over California as well as other states. Click on Andy's pics here in these comments for an idea of how big past events have been. There will be all kinds of rides and activities during the event. Here is the website if you want to read more. Check out the schedule, and the ride descriptions. http://amerivespa.org

Lori, The Motel 6 in Mission Valley on Hotel Circle (Taylor & I-8) probably doesn't allow bed-bugs. But back to scooters. If you're not comfortable on the freeway, by all means don't ride it. The I-5 traffic may be going 90, or it may be so congested you could split lanes from Encinitas to Old Town. You don't have to miss the event. I'll loan you my Genuine 110cc Rattler. Licensed/GEICO insured. Runs flawlessly! Ride the AmTrak from San Juan Capistrano to Old Town, and I'll have the scooter waiting there for you. Or ride the Coaster from Oceanside to the AmTrak station in downtown San Diego on Kettner. The latter will be much easier for me, as it's very close to The Waterfront. There are recent pix of the Rattler on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/aesracingltd. Cheers, Alan

Btw careful with the motel 6. Don't leave your stuff on the floor if possible cause bed bugs are rampant in California

My scooter does 55 but does not belong on the freeway. It's a nhx 110. So I guess 110 cc?? Anyway yes I have a motorcycle but I signed up for scooter rides. I guess I'm looking for something more local. I was on Beach blvd and saw a slew of scooters and it looked so much fun in a group like that. I guess I'll wait for a local gathering in the future :)

Who all is staying at Motel 6 on Hotel Circle? BTW, for those of you who don't know Marta Woodfield, she won Hell's Loop T.T. 375-Mile Extreme Endurance Race, November 2012, on her Honda 650cc Silver Wing. But she is, after all, just a youngster at the ripe young age of 62! :)

So is this a scooter ride to San Diego??? Cause mine doesn't really belong on the highway. Can someone tell me how the ride will be

    May 20, 2013

    • Kimberly

Lori if you want to meet up and drive PCH down I would be able to... If we call ahead I've been told base will let you drive through... I live in the Laguna area. Let me know :)

Lori, I just noticed you have a motorcycle. Why not ride it? Alan

Lori, I ride the I-5 all them time on my Kymco S9 70cc and my Genuine 110cc Rattler. Hi-viz vest. 60 mph. Group if possible. Dangerous? Probably? Doable? Definitely. What displacement is your scooter? (How many "cc"? Alan

Bud, the Waterfront is a frigging zoo on Saturday mornings. I will get there early in these hope of securing parking and a large table. Take you time heading south and be safe. Freeway at 60 to 63 in a group should be safe. Alan www.facebook.com/aesracingltd

    1 · May 21, 2013

  • Bud W.

The ride is mostly open highway, but it seems with your scooter displacement you can ride PCH from HB, and just take a few minutes on the FWY south of San Clemente before diverting through the Military Base and then back to PCH in Oceanside. I think someone in the group mentioned getting prior permission though.

Hi Lori, some people are headed down from Orange County earlier to attend the entire Amerivespa event, but the group plan calls for a Saturday early morning meet up at the Waterfront Bar and Grill before riding to the event. I'll be headed down in the early am from Lake Forest area.

When is the group thinking of heading down? And also coming back?

I was looking at the website and the Friday morning ride with the Pharaohs across the boarder sounds like a lot of fun... I was thinking of going for the whole convention... Thursday-Sunday. So who's in for the whole weekend??

    April 23, 2013

    • Bud W.

Hi Kimberly, I just reserved and got registered for the event. I will be heading down from Lake Forest in the morning sometime. I can ride with you from Dana Point on. We'll take the slow lane and cruise till we get to Oceanside then cut over to PCH. Here is the route we can take to get you down there. What do you think?

      April 23, 2013

    • Kimberly

Hi Bud. I was talking to another scooter guy and he said that the base will let you ride through as long as you call ahead. So thats an option... I would love to ride down with some people but it all just depends on when. I want to head down Thursday afternoon.

Hi All, I'm flying out of San Diego tomorrow to rendezvous with my Gilera racer for The Real Cannonball. I've been on the fly with last minute work/preparations, so I haven't been blogging. I'm down for at least a day of Amerivespa starting with the Waterfront. I've never been to or seen anything like this, so I'm excited. I encourage everyone to immerse themselves in Amerivespa, as I'm about to do in the Great Race. Hopefully I'll be home soon (May 8th ?) and can get back to spewing my drivel on this blog? Keep the shiny side up and the Pirellis on the road. If you haven't done so, please consider joining "760" San Diego North County Scooter Club too. Cheers.

Thanks Alan. I was also wondering if everyone was going the whole event weekend Thurs-Sun and what hotels people were booking at. Any advice would be so helpful
