Tampa North Ride Brooksville

A little different ride into the Tampa North region. Optional breakfast at 8:30 AM with kickstands up at 9:15 AM. Safety Stop at Hess Station on US 98. There is no lunch so we suggest you to have a hearty breakfast at the "301". Ride approximately  66 miles to Hess and 46 from Hess back to Fowler Ave and US 301. We will be making an ice cream stop in Zephyrhills  on way back(weather permitting). Hernando County has various speed traps so we must watch our speed.

Ok so get this, as I am pulling air intake snorkel off I see plastic bag. Pull air box off and a 10 lb ice bag had gotten sucked past the air filter and into the cylinder 1 throttle body. It would not allow the throttle plate to close and was holding all four throttles open by quite a bit... Only me...

Thanks to everyone for the help and just glad I got thru the turn and got the bike stopped safely!

As a fellow BMW 1200 ST rider (not GT), I was concerned even more than for your and your sons' safety which of course came first. Glad it worked out for you safely in the end. Any idea Steve how you ingested the ice bag?

Not the slightest clue. It kind of looks like it was in there for a bit though. I think it got stuck as it was pulled past the side of the air filter, and then probably inched its way along every once in a while until it jammed up. The bike has had some quirky throttle issues (some stumbling and transitions sluggishness) but the bike is new to me and I used to ride a 1992 Ducati so I figured it was just "character". At least having found the root cause I will be able to trust it when I get it back together. Sorry we didn't get a chance to chat today. Planned to catch up with you at the break but that didn't work out!

Missed a few roads but still a nice ride. Steve, let us know what the problem ended up being, ok? Broken cable?

We are home with the bike. Heading out to the garage shortly to begin the deplastification process so I can see what is going on.

Kyle and I are sitting on the side of the road near San Antonio waiting for the tow truck. Throttle stuck wfo after passing that tractor. Made that corner a bit interesting... "Fine German machinery" siting beside the road with three Harleys trying to help out. I guess I chose poorly! Hah!

John, I will bring your Tee. If you have a SSR Tee, please wear it. Since ride is full please make sure by Friday that you are going. If you are on waiting list you have a 90% chance of going. The number of riders is really dependent on the number of guides. We believe that a guide can handle a group of 8.
