Navigation and Fire building

We really don't think of navigation as a survival skill but without it we would be lost!

Come on out and learn how to use a map and compass we'll go over how and why a compass works also topographical maps, map symbols, tick marks, contour lines, declination ETC.

We will also do a small navigation course and how to make a map and compass talk to each other by transferring info from the map to the real world and vice verse.

I also would like to do some fire building and go over the tools used (there are many) the plan would be to look at different tinder and fire starters (no primitive methods that's a meetup in itself) then build a few small fires.

What you need to bring:

Map compass (if you don't have one I have some to loan)

Sturdy boots

Dress for the weather (rain or shine)

any fire starters you'd like to try out

Water and snacks

Hope to see you all there if you have any questions feel free to call me[masked] or email me.

Another well run outing by Brian. We had a great turnout and had a blast. And nobody got wet crossing the creek, thankfully.:)

I spent 11 years in the Army. Brian put things concerning map and compass in a good civilian perspective. My son and I enjoyed the cable bridge and the wild edibles walk. And now I know what a cedar tree looks like...and Bob knows how to make fire. I will try the hand drill method to make fire and make cordage. Thanks again Brian and it was good to see all for the second time and meeting others for the first.

Excellent! We had so much fun! Brian really knows how to break things down in a way that is more easily understood as well as how to plan fun, interactive and educational meetups! Loved seeing everyone and meeting great new people too! Traveled 3 hrs for this and it was worth every minute!

Fantastic. This was the first meetup that I've been able to attend and it was great. Brian is very organized and he put a lot of effort into this meetup and it's appreciated.

Great meetup idea Brian! I've been feeling "under the weather" this week, dealing with a change of work schedule, and sickness in the family and am not sure if this one will work out for me. I'm taking "one day at a time." Hope you're well and talk to you later!
