Bow Drill fire starting?

I'd like to learn and try to master the bow drill. Love to learn from someone that has done it already. Either at someone's house, picnic area or whatever.

What types of materials are best to use for the base board? Also for the bow? I'm guessing a shoelace or parachute cord for the string? I'm betting that natural cordage wouldn't work as well, would need to be processed some how...

It would be helpful if everyone bought 550 cord, if you have a Yucca plant nearby grab the dried flower stem or dried Mullien stem any cedar or popular wood. We can search for the bows here and also i'll keep my eye out for some of the supplies.

We will use my garage for the class I now have my wood stove hooked up in there doesn't make it hot but it helps alot.

Questions?? feel free to email me or give me a ring at[masked]

    About the flu -

Typical signs/symptoms in an otherwise healthy adult could be:
    Body aches
    Headaches
    Fever
    Cough
    Sore throat
    Runny nose
    Ear aches
    Nausea/vomiting

You can spread it to people within two or three feet of you by coughing/sneezing, or even from surfaces like shared objects, door knobs, etc. Adults can incubate flu for 1 to 4 days before symptoms show. We shed flu virus from the day before symptoms show and for up to ten days after that. Flu can also dispose us to primary viral pneumonia and sometimes secondary bacterial pneumonia.

The message here is that if you have or had flu-like symptoms within the last week, even if you feel better now, it's probably better to lay low at home and avoid group functions to prevent transmission to other people.

Sorry for the pictures. I'm not too computer literate. I also wish I could make the meetup. I have to work the weekend. I'm comfortable making my own char cloth, char cattail, and char fungus but have not tried the bow drill method yet. Perhaps another meetup in the future.

I wish I could make it! I would love to learn this skill but we don't get out of church until noon at the earliest. Hope you all have a great time and maybe I can make it to another one in the future.
