I believe it is second year mullein. Brian said the stalk can be used for hand drilling a fire. I carried one all the way back to my car and realized later that I left the park without it!

I just read mullein leaves can be dried, ground and used to make tea! Oh I wish I had been able to stay for the rest of that meetup! Maybe there'll be another wild edibles at Rustic Park in the spring.

I was really surprised how many wild edibles and tea making plants could be found in the winter. It was eye opening for me. Brian showed us other medicinal and edibles at the end of the traps and snares meet too so I am sure there will be many more in the future. Hope to see you again soon!
