We are all members of many groups (as well as Southend Philosophy Group!) Our family group; our ethnic group, our national group, friendship group, work group and so on.  What loyalty do we owe to these groups? And to what extent should we be considered as a part of these groups? Or are we entirely autonomous, self-defining individuals?

Michael Gove's desire for schools to promote "British values" is one current issue to discuss.  Also, what about positive discrimination? Should certain groups be favoured when employing people or when appointing judges or when admitting students to university?

Please note:  This month's meeting is on a Wednesday.

Look forward to seeing you!!

Hi Luke I am sorry but I am now unable to make it to the group tonight. It is a pity because as usual it is a very interesting topic. Hope everyone has a good evening.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
