Let's Have Some Como Loop FUN!

Come join me for some Como Fun!

Meet at 515am, in pedals by 530.

This ride is considered intermediate for tech (at first) and endurance though beginners with good endurance will fair just fine. Expect to be out there at least 4 hrs (to include regroup breaks)

This ride skirts the east side of the Tortolita Mtns. Meet at the Post Office at Tangerine and La Canada. A 5 mile warm up on road to dirt (goes by fast - we can chat about how awesome the rest of it will be on the way), then a 2.5 mile grueling jeep road climb that is technical in parts. You must pay to play on the downs. Single track about 7 miles in but a mile of a fun tech uphill single track to the saddle. From there it's mostly downhill (except for the parts that aren't)! The downhill is slightly tech at first with some flow and later it's mostly fast, flowy fun with a few "holy crap where'd those rocks come from" parts to keep you on your toes.

There are some new trails in the area and I'll try to get a route together to incorporate most of everything (or what I know at least) out there. Depending on who shows, endurance levels, the time, and heat factor we can ride back up and hit whatever we missed.

I'll include some example rides below though the route I make won't be exactly the same, again trying to incorporate most of the trails. Please read the description before you freak out on a couple of them as I DO NOT plan on taking us over to Catalina State Park. I just couldn't find one that I did that included what is deemed the McD's section.

Not really sure you can view a Strava ride w/out being signed up so I'll include my Garmin file on it too:

Como with new top loop trail to Primo - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/315943481 or http://app.strava.com/activities/47248014

We would NOT go over to Catalina State Park but this one includes the McDs route we took. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/315943754 or http://app.strava.com/activities/43039479

Here is my friend, Beth's, McDs route (no garmin available) - http://app.strava.com/activities/53433384

Come out and play!

I'll have maps ready for those who may want to split early. It really isn't that hard to find your way back to "home base." You all are welcome to put up another shorter ride during this one, wherever, or there. I don't mind. Again just thought I'd throw it up here since I was going to go out and piddle around Como anyway.

Yeah, must have been reading an earlier version. Don't know if I can make it. Have to pick up my daughter at the airport at 10pm Friday night & leave my house around 425am Sat. Have to see about that! :-)

Anyone game for carpool from town?

    June 10, 2013

    • Wendi

Lol... I just think i am out of the way from you and Hillary. Plus, I want to ride it all without worrying that my carpool buddies want a shorter day. :)

      June 11, 2013

    • Alex G.

No worries Wendi! I think we're doing the whole thing but my car fills up at 3 bikes anyhow. See you there!

Look, I love you all dearly and I'm so excited to start hanging on more group rides. I'm excited to show you these trails. Just show up w/plenty of water, fuel, and trust me that I won't be dragging you out into the desert to your death or to scour your way back, lost, like Clark Griswold in Vacation - "We passed a God damn gas station every 10 yards for 1000 miles, but when you really need one, you end up walking your ass off. This is no way to run a desert! "

Playing around w/some routes to incorporate most of the trails, the mileage will be about 34-36 miles. DON'T FREAK OUT because 10 of those are fast road. After the grueling climb at first this ride is fast. Of course we'll have to climb a bit later to incorporate more but the later climbs will be very low grade and easier, sometimes called "false flats." Definitely worth the reward to come back down. This will put our time out there, to include breaks about 3.5-4 hrs. There's little to no climbing on our way back to the cars, it'll be fast and breezy. The heat won't be as big of a deal by then.

Bring plenty water, electrolytes, and fuel/food.

Last wks ride was 5x harder than this will be with exception of the beginning which we will be doing at first with cooler temps.

I'll be ready to play! Long loop please :-)

  • Cassi

Tom may be right. We may be out there longer than 4 hrs bit like I said though hot towards the end we'll be headed back downhill and come on road. Will be fast and breezy.

Ok folks, check the temps in the morning and how it goes from 75 to Boiling in 2 min. How early is too early for folks? I'm contemplating moving this to meet 30-45 min earlier. I know it's early but 'tis the season. It'll be worth it, I swear. ;).

    June 10, 2013

    • Hillary M.

Holy crap that is early. I think you are going to kill me.

      1 · June 10, 2013

      Filling mine w/fireball whiskey!

      1 · June 10, 2013

Moved meet time :45 min earlier. I'm sooo not a morning person and I live an hr away. If I can roll my ass outta bed before 4am and leave at 415, you all that live closer by will be ok :). This is how dedicated us AZ bikers have to be, right? *crickets*

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
