Take a Kid/Take a Mom Mountain Biking in the Tucson Mountain Park

October 5 is IMBA's 10th annual take a kid/take a mom mountain biking day. Our SAMBA ride will be an official registered ride through IMBA. You can find more info here http://www.imba.com/kids In honor of this event we are going to do our traditional beginner ride in the Tucson Mountain Park. We will do an easy paced ride through single track. We will start at the K15 pullout (where Gates Pass Rd dead ends into Kinney Rd) and ride 2 miles down hill on the power line road before turning off onto singletrack. There will be three options for distance. The first option takes us to the Kinney Rd K14 pullout, a total of 5-6 miles from our starting point. Riders can then ride the road 1 mile back to the cars. Those that want to continue on single track can continue back to the power line road and from there up to the cars, for a total of 8 miles. The third option continues from option 2 through the Gilbert Ray Campground and then back to the cars for a total of 9 miles. The decision is yours once you get out there. We will stop at both break off points for people to choose their route. We will have someone stopped at all intersections (and there are a lot) so no one gets lost. For some reason the link in Pima County no longer works for the map. You can still find the map on the SDMB site. Go to http://www.sdmb.org/trails/tucson-mountain-park/ and click on Entire Tucson Mountain Park Trails Map. I encourage people to carpool as parking is very limited! We will meet at Himmel Park at the 1st St parking lot at 7:00 for carpooling or at the trailhead at 7:30. Remember to bring your helmet and plenty of water. And most of all, bring your kids, moms, dads, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, basically anyone you know that owns a bike that you have always wanted to get started on the trails.

Hey guys, I have 6 kids signed up. If anyone has extra gloves or helmets that could be borrowed that would be awesome. We have helmets but a lot of them don't fit well and can't be adjusted. The kids are excited to go on their first mtb ride!
