I want to thank everyone for making me see that the way I read -- quickly and relying on first impressions -- is only appropriate for light fiction. I will slowly re-read this book giving it more thought. I especially appreciated the comments of people who have visited China and/or studied its culture. I'm looking forward to reading Anchee Min's new memoir, The Cooked Seed, as well as her novels.

Well said! I came away from the group discussion thinking the same thing about my own reading preferences. I love this group's diversity of opinions.....and food. Wonderful spread everyone! Thankx.

This was my first time and I was amazed at the variety of thought provoking comments. It's made me rethink how I read.

Aargh. I am unable to make it again and disappointed to miss the good company and good discussion (oh yeah, and the good eats). Studying for an upcoming big exam. However, my sights are now set on making it in November!

I just joined today and have not read the book "Red Azalea", so I won't be attending next week. However, I wondered how we know what book comes next? Can anyone advise? Thank you.

Hi Cheryl, click on the "home" tab, found just above the pix in the up left corner. You are welcome to come if you haven't read the book. Just know that you'll find out about the ending.....Morna
