SMDG TableTop RPG Group 2 - Werewolf: the Apocalypse

December's one-shot game for "Group 2."

I'm going to run Werewolf: the Apocalypse. (I'll have pre-gen characters and will try to post a little intro to the game in advance.)

We will meet at Books a Million in Waldorf.  6 to 10pm.

As a reminder, "Group 2" is open to everyone. While there are a several of us that are regulars, other people are welcome to join. We get together once or twice a month to play what is usually a one-shot game with a different system and different GM.

We had a good time, but it was a weird Saturday night. Lots of events conspired against our players all making it. (Allyson, I hope your boyfriend's dad is okay! Thanks for the cookies.) But even with a severely reduced pack, our werewolves performed quite well. You pulled out some solutions to obstacles that I had completely not anticipated which always makes it fun for a GM.

Since I've got the characters already made up, if there is interest, I'll run another Werewolf one shot in early 2013.

I have open a thread in the forums for January's one shot.

While I'm taking a break from work to eat my lunch, I'll ask if anyone has any questions about the game or system that we can cover in advance?

I'll have the seven PC's tomorrow with some take-it-or-leave-it role playing tips for each. They are all pretty different and will go on a first come, first served basis.

Werewolf is a d10 based game. No other dice are needed. If you have some d10's, please bring them. If not, don't worry about it as I have plenty.

The short version is that you will usually roll your "dots" in an Attribute (ex "Strength") plus your "dots" in an Ability (like "Melee"). I will give you a target number or difficulty. Each die that is the target number or higher counts as a "success"- the more successes, the better generally. For example, your werewolf is in "crinos" form (big and scary!). You have 8 dots in Strength and 3 dots in Melee. When you try to hit something with the tree branch you just broke off, you roll 11 (8+3) dice against a target difficulty of 6. Every die greater than five is a success. You only need 1 success to hit, but you can get spectacular results with more successes.

I'm glad that all worked out. Sorry you can't make it, Rachel and Ben. We will hold a spot for you, BuRCh. I'll plan on a party size of 6. The forces of the Wyrm gather.

We come from men. We walk among them. Yet their cities gobble more of the land like fat, bloated maggots. Most of us venture there. Some of us live there. But the cities are not our home. We come from wolves. We walk among them. The forests are the lands of our four-footed brothers and sisters. They grudgingly share the forests with us, and yet the forests are not our home. We are as much spirit as flesh. The Umbra is home to spirits and we travel there nearly as easily as through the realms of flesh. Yet we cannot stay there forever. The Umbra is not our home.

We are children of Gaia. We are her Chosen; her warriors, defenders, and protectors. We are loved and blessed by Gaia’s sister, Luna. Why then should we, the most ardent of Gaia’s children be so utterly and bitterly adrift upon Gaia’s bosom?

The Wyrm’s corruption spreads every day; its venom sinking deeper and deeper into the hearts of men with ever more disastrous results. The Weaver’s webs bind more of the world, chocking out life and renewal. The Wyld diminishes each day, taking hope, joy, and creativity further and further away from us all. The Apocalypse is coming. Gaia cries out in anguish. The pain we feel is Her pain. The isolation we feel is Her isolation. Our mother needs us. Let the animals cringe from us; let the humans run from us; let the spirits challenge us. We will live in all of their worlds! We have no home to call our own, so all of Gaia’s manifold creations that surround us shall be our home. Let all the agents of the Wyrm and Weaver strike us. We will rise again! We will embrace our mother’s pain, letting it temper us like steal.
      And we will RAGE!

Hey Ben. Understand about the other commitments. No worries. Please try to let me know sometime next week. If you make it, will Rachel be with you or will she be on Kid Duty?

Hey all, you can get a sense of Werewolf through this free PDF.

However, they really butcher a lot of the rules so I suggest that if you want to read it, only look at the first 9 pages.
