Come out for an evening of camping with fellow freethinkers!
-Sakatah Lake State Park is more centrally located for both our metro area and Mankato area freethinkers.
-There were NO cabins available any weekends, so tents all around!
-The Lower Group Camp (LGC on the map) site is a hike in site.
-Park entrance is located on State Highway 60, 14 miles east of Faribault, or one mile east of State Highways 13 and 60 in Waterville.
-Check in is after 4pm on Saturday, June 27th. Check out is Sunday, June 28th before 4pm.
Sakatah Lake State Park features biking and hiking trails, a lake, geocaching, and just general camping goodness. Canoe rentals are available at the camp's office on a first come, first serve basis. The camp does also seem to have tents available for rental if you do not have a tent. You can make arrangements directly with the park at their website or by calling them.
Pets are allowed. No electricity. Not handicapped accessible.
There will be a charge per person, but that will be dependent on number of people who sign up, so I'll wait until that day. The site costs $50.00 to rent overnight, so if there are 10 people, $5.00 each. I'm sure you can do the math from there. :)
We will have a limit of 50 people, which I doubt we'll reach, and 12 vehicles total. If we have more than 12 vehicles, we'll park in nearby Waterville and ride share. We can arrange this the day we get to camp as needed.
Each vehicle will need a park pass for their windshield. If you don't already have one, they are $4.00 for one day, $25.00 for the year. We can also ride share with vehicles that already have park passes on them.
EXACT CHECK IN DIRECTIONS:
Click here for a park map to follow along with the directions!
If you are heading west on Highway 60 toward the camp, the first sign you will see is Sakatah Lake State Trail. This is NOT the park (the trail is very long), so continue on Highway 60. The park entrance is clearly marked, and you should go there first to check in and get a map/park sticker if you don't already have one. The actual entrance to the group camp is a little more than a mile from the park entrance back east on Highway 60. The road is called Leroy Avenue. Drive north on Leroy Ave for about .5 miles. You will come to a stop sign. Take a right on Highway 99, also called 245th St. Drive east on 245th/99 for about .5 miles. The Lower Group Camp will be on your left.
Please see the website for park rules and regs, a park map, and other fancy information about the park. If you have any more questions, like wanting to reserve a Friday night in addition to the Saturday night, you can contact the park directly. If you have any questions specific to this event, you can email Crystal D. at [masked]
Hope to see you there!
