TWIN CITIES AREA: http://www.meetup.com...
Come out with your freethinking friends for some fossil hunting action. Lilydale Regional Park in St. Paul, near Harriet Island, has multiple fossil hunting beds, waterfalls, an interesting cave, and beautiful city views.
Minnesota Atheists is providing a group permit for the day, so no need for individual permits.
There is some walking involved, much uphill, to get to the fossil beds, though this fossil site is also suitable for children. This site is not as fossiliferous as some others, but you are still pretty much guaranteed to find a fossil! It is very easy, no skill involved! :)
It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and clothing. If you'd like, bring along gloves and a bag/container for your finds. We will have a copy of the field guide to help you identify your fossils. (You can see Vic's blog post about Minnesota fossil hunting to see pictures of just a few fossils that we have found.)
The only bathrooms available are at Harriet Island Park 1 mile away from the site, so keep that in mind. That is also the closest drinking water source.
