Are happy to announce Secular Labor Day Weekend at Sechler Park

Come to beautiful Sechler Park for a Labor Day Weekend potluck picnic. Meet new free-thinking friends from a variety of freethought groups in Minnesota, perhaps beyond. Sechler Park is secluded and has a wonderful play area for children, so be sure to bring the whole family!

That afternoon, weather permitting, Crystal and Vic can take anyone interested to a nearby town about a 15 minute drive from the park to do some easy fossil hunting, also kid-friendly. (See Vic's blog for information and pictures of various fossils found at the site.)

Please bring picnic food to share. (electrical outlets are available in the shelter)

Bring your own beverages, and no glass please! Also, please bring camp chairs/lawn chairs if possible to accommodate what we hope will be a large group.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Coming from 35 N or S, Take Northfield exit onto Highway 19 heading East toward Northfield, MN.

Just past St. Olaf's College, take a right on Armstrong Road.

Follow Armstrong Road to signs for Sechler Park on your left. We have the shelter reserved.

    •  Wow, amazing turnout! Lots of people from lots of different groups. I was very happy about today. We even had a good crowd go fossil hunting afterward. Awesome!
    •  This may not be needed for others, but it would have helped me to have each person speak just a word or two about who they are and what their deal is. I know it's a drag for all you old timers, but new people are at sea. As someone walking into a big group of strangers I felt pretty lost. I ended up walking over and introducing myself 3 or 4 times, but this isn't so easy with most people's attention being taken up with their own friends/acquaintances. I hate saying this but it brought back memories of school cliques as we were growing up. People just quack with their friends as a new person flounders. I didn't even meet any other new toads, were there any?
    •  It felt good to have the groups be able to get together. We hope this happens more often in the future.
