You are invited to Victor and Crystal's Celebration Party! We'll be having a huge party for all of our family and friends right before we leave for our honeymoon. Ask us about how to really do a DIY secular wedding! Come on out for an informal party with music and Mighty Boosh cupcakes. In lieu of gifts, we will be collecting donations for the local food shelf. (Right before Thanksgiving, the timing is perfect!) See our wordpress blog to get all of the additional info you may need!

Come downtown to watch some freethinker-themed viral videos with us. Kissing Hank's Ass is a hilarious parody of religion, and even if you've seen it before, you know it will be even more hilarious amongst freethinking friends! We'll also have the J. Huger pamphlet (the origin of the short) available as well for those interested. Before and after the shorts, we'll have tons of time to socialize, eat food, drink, be merry, and all that jazz. If you have any suggestions for any other short videos that you would like to see, tell us in the survey questions when you RSVP for the event!

Come on out for a picnic gathering with NEW Freethinking Friends! This is event will be specifically designed for those who have never attended a meet up before. Never fear, oldies, you are also welcome! We will need your assistance to welcome new people and to help with activities. :) Our group is still relatively new, anyway, and we are all still getting to know one another. (We were founded the end of 2008.) Bring your own food, utensils, plates, beverages, etc. and some to share if you feel so inclined. We will try to get Shelter 3 reserved first, if not we will go to Shelter 4 or 5, in that order. (They're on a first come, first serve basis and don't require a rental fee...) We will have a BIG Meet Up sign to help you find the group. See the PDF map of Spring Lake Park to find the shelters. Spring Lake Park has areas for volleyball, baseball, basketball, swimming, and also a playground. There are also a couple of geocaches in the park that we can go find. We'll eat lunch together, then we can all head out to the various activities. Picnics are also extremely family-friendly, so bring the whole clan. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Come out for an evening of camping with fellow freethinkers! -Sakatah Lake State Park is more centrally located for both our metro area and Mankato area freethinkers. -There were NO cabins available any weekends, so tents all around! -The Lower Group Camp (LGC on the map) site is a hike in site. -Park entrance is located on State Highway 60, 14 miles east of Faribault, or one mile east of State Highways 13 and 60 in Waterville. -Check in is after 4pm on Saturday, June 27th. Check out is Sunday, June 28th before 4pm. Sakatah Lake State Park features biking and hiking trails, a lake, geocaching, and just general camping goodness. Canoe rentals are available at the camp's office on a first come, first serve basis. The camp does also seem to have tents available for rental if you do not have a tent. You can make arrangements directly with the park at their website or by calling them. Pets are allowed. No electricity. Not handicapped accessible. There will be a charge per person, but that will be dependent on number of people who sign up, so I'll wait until that day. The site costs $50.00 to rent overnight, so if there are 10 people, $5.00 each. I'm sure you can do the math from there. :) We will have a limit of 50 people, which I doubt we'll reach, and 12 vehicles total. If we have more than 12 vehicles, we'll park in nearby Waterville and ride share. We can arrange this the day we get to camp as needed. Each vehicle will need a park pass for their windshield. If you don't already have one, they are $4.00 for one day, $25.00 for the year. We can also ride share with vehicles that already have park passes on them. EXACT CHECK IN DIRECTIONS: Click here for a park map to follow along with the directions! If you are heading west on Highway 60 toward the camp, the first sign you will see is Sakatah Lake State Trail. This is NOT the park (the trail is very long), so continue on Highway 60. The park entrance is clearly marked, and you should go there first to check in and get a map/park sticker if you don't already have one. The actual entrance to the group camp is a little more than a mile from the park entrance back east on Highway 60. The road is called Leroy Avenue. Drive north on Leroy Ave for about .5 miles. You will come to a stop sign. Take a right on Highway 99, also called 245th St. Drive east on 245th/99 for about .5 miles. The Lower Group Camp will be on your left. Please see the website for park rules and regs, a park map, and other fancy information about the park. If you have any more questions, like wanting to reserve a Friday night in addition to the Saturday night, you can contact the park directly. If you have any questions specific to this event, you can email Crystal D. at astrocomfy@hotmail.c om Hope to see you there!

TWIN CITIES AREA: http://www.meetup.co m/minnesota-atheists / Come out with your freethinking friends for some fossil hunting action. Lilydale Regional Park in St. Paul, near Harriet Island, has multiple fossil hunting beds, waterfalls, an interesting cave, and beautiful city views. Minnesota Atheists is providing a group permit for the day, so no need for individual permits. There is some walking involved, much uphill, to get to the fossil beds, though this fossil site is also suitable for children. This site is not as fossiliferous as some others, but you are still pretty much guaranteed to find a fossil! It is very easy, no skill involved! :) It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and clothing. If you'd like, bring along gloves and a bag/container for your finds. We will have a copy of the field guide to help you identify your fossils. (You can see Vic's blog post about Minnesota fossil hunting to see pictures of just a few fossils that we have found.) The only bathrooms available are at Harriet Island Park 1 mile away from the site, so keep that in mind. That is also the closest drinking water source. Click on this link for a great intro and guide to Lilydale Regional Park, including maps of the area. DIRECTIONS: From Harriet Island Park at Plato Boulevard: Continue west on Water Street for 1 mile. The parking lot is on your left. From 35E: Take the Highway 13 exit and then take a right onto Lilydale Road. Lilydale road circles under Highway 13. Stay on Lilydale Road for exactly 1.8 miles. The parking lot is on your right. (The parking lot is somewhat difficult to see coming from this direction.) A PDF Map of Lilydale Regional Park

This is the first picnic of the '09 summer by and for the Minnesota Freethought community. This one sponsored by CASH (Campus Atheist, Skeptics, and Humanists), but there will be plenty of folks from Humanists of Minnesota, Minnesota Atheists, and various other freethought groups. Lots of friendly people. A play area for the kids. Lively discussions for the adults. Bring games, instruments etc. Bring some picnic food to share. The shelter area has electricity, sink and electric hot plate. (Don’t forget to bring your own beverage, plate and utensils.) COLUMBIA PARK is located in northeast Minneapolis. ► Take Central Ave NE (MN Hwy. 65) to Columbia Pkwy. (Between 36th Ave. and 37th Ave.) ► Turn west onto Columbia Pkwy. ► Proceed along Columbia Pkwy. (0.35 miles). ► After you go under the railroad bridge, you will see the park on your left. ► Take the first left onto the service road (you will see a sign for “800 Columbia Blvd.”). Proceed to the second parking lot on your left (0.2 miles). (You should see us by the shelter on the hill!)

Hello Everyone! It's that time again for another Think and Drink pub night at Midtown Tavern. This night, we will also have the board game "Playing Gods" if anyone is interested in trying their luck at world domination via specific deities. Come down to enjoy some great conversation with like-minded people. Keep in mind, you do not have to be an atheist, or even drink, to feel welcome. We're all pretty friendly and such... Also, feel free to bring a CD of atheist or humanist-themed music so we won't have to hear Nickleback on the jukebox. * Hope to see you there! *Obligatory apologies to anyone who likes Nickleback.

Campus Atheists and Agnostics (CAA) Presents: Ask An Atheist The event will be an open forum consisting of a panel of atheist students answering questions from the audience. What we believe or don't believe, the reasons for it, how we live our lives, etc. CAA had an event like this last year and it proved to be quite successful and to be an educational event for everyone involved. We encourage anyone interested to considering coming! Support your local student group by putting your atheist butt in an atheist seat. The more atheist/agnostic presence at this event, the better, as with all of our events. CAA is also interested in getting someone to moderate, so if you think you'd be good at keeping people under control and would like to be involved, please let me know!
