And "Thank You!", Art & June - for your performance and for being the catalysts that made this happen.

Best meeting ever. Open mics add so much. What a pleasant and inspirational way to wind down a general meeting. Hats off to Chris, Alex, Dick and Dennis. A great show of talent. I'm going to get the log updated and back on line after this weekend. Please sign up for a slot on Friday, May 30. There is plenty of time to practice and get ready. Please drop me a note through MeetUp or if more comfortable use my email at: [masked]
Thank you June for hosting. Hosting is a good experience too. An alternative to playing but good to get a little speaking experience.
Thank you performers and all you supporters.

Holy Schmokes, you guys were awesome! Thanks so much, wow, I still can't believe how much talent we have. Thanks to Alex, Chris, Dennis, Art and Richard, for the great entertainment! And Mary Ellen, thanks for agreeing to host the next one, which will be at the May 30th practice. It is fun to see and hear what other's have been working on!

Kathy! We need an audience. That's what makes the whole thing work. Please stay for the open min & enjoy. See you there.

Hi Art! This is a wonderful idea! :) but... If we are "shy" and not ready for the limelight ;) is it acceptable to come.. O and be the audience?

I received changes and updated the Open Mic Log under the "More" and "Files" tab area. Please check it out. This event should be great fun.

I have decided to perform the doo-wop classic "Teenager in Love" by Dion and the Belmonts!

Please see the Mic Log under the MeetUp MORE and FILES tabs for new information. Song choices are being listed. Pre-selection is not mandatory but it is nice to get an advanced look at the performers and songs selected. This should be lots of fun. Thanks.

Please look at the log in the MeetUp files area. We tentatively have our first five Open Mic Performers. Don't be shy...submit your name for a piece. If you don't get on this week you should be up in front for the following event. Get your names in early. Thanks everyone.

Hi Everyone. Looks like we have four players so far. Please add your name. I assume that if we get more performers than the time allows we can bump them into the next meeting and open mic. I'd like to volunteer to move my slot to the next open mic if a couple more of you sign up for this Friday (5/2/2014).
Just to get everyone thinking...I've put a sample Open Mic Log in the files area. Perhaps June could post and update as needed or find a volunteer to maintain.
    Thanks
    Art

Remember this is an open mic and not a master class. Any comments should be positive and encouraging. Save your critiques for any brave soul that might ask for suggestions. Give your performers a big hand after they play.
I'd like to see members of all playing levels participate. Maybe start by finding a buddy or two and do an ensemble. Set a goal to do a piece as a solo. If anyone needs help let me know. I live in Massachusetts but can work pretty effectively online with MIDI and MP3 files.
We should probably keep a log of performances online in the files area. Make sure everyone gets a chance in the spotlight. Maybe record name, date and piece played.
This should be fun. Let's share, learn, be inspired, and have a few laughs too ... I'm sure.
Sorry I get so wordy. I get way to excited sometimes.
    Thanks again to June.
    Thanks all
    Art

Sorry... Have to use multi reply boxes. Only 1000 characters allowed.

June. Thank you...a thousand times. I'm so happy to see this event added. I hope it becomes permanent. Open Mics are Important. 1) A start to overcoming those performance hangups like wringing your fingers, hysteria, crying, blackouts, etc. 2) Validates all our times away from family and friends because now we can develop the experience to play for them. 3) Inspiration from watching and hearing other members of all skill levels. 4) A chance to perform a piece extra special to you. 5) Creates interests and bonds...now you will know who to ask about a new technique or style you've wanted to try.
Remember this is an open mic and not a master class. Any comments should be positive and encouraging. Save your critiques for any brave soul that might ask for suggestions. Give your performers a big hand after they play.
