Lee Fair

Town of lee fair is Sept 6th. I have been approached about playing it again. The national anthem at about noon, then a short set soon after. I can play the anthem by myself but Art has worked up an ensemble version. Is the interest in this gig? A member of the fair committee told me my name and the uke group have been mentioned and they would like us to play again. More prep time. If at least a handful would do it I can let them know.

lee set list, we can play 30-45 minutes. lots of songs on the list, more than we need so the ones that sound best on Friday make the final cut. we have played these before, no big learning curves.

if no one has reasonable reasons why not to do a tune and a run through Friday or sooner is good then it is on the list I will set an order

lets add this land and any other suggestions. Psycho killer? we played it there last year, unlikely only same people will be there and it usually is well received.

looks good Deb. The show tomorrow in Exeter and the practice next Friday will be good indicators of the length. The set list we used for Kingston Days was supposed to be 45 min and we did it in about 35 so a few extras might be in order. As far as Abilene goes per an earlier post of yours, I think it's too soon. That can be a great song for us someday, but just not yet.

    August 27

  • Deb J.

I found out today that we will be the first group to play after the opening so it will be soon after the NA, We can play up to an hour. I need to let them know so the can schedule other things. I think 45 mins sounds good- anybody else?

    August 27

  • Deb J.

FYI the time has been changed for the opening ceremony to 11am, we will need to be there by 1030unless we have the SSB perfect by then.

Now that Alex is coming new set list suggestions

    = Bad moon rising
    =I can see clearly
    =Blues stay away from me
    =Jamaica farewell
    =Last kiss
    =Abilene
    =Pearly shells
    =Summer afternoon
    =Love potion #9

If I have left out someone's favorite song, let me know. If anyone really doesn't like a song let me know.

It looks like we can play more than 30mins if we want. We can choose depending on how good they sound, then play what we want.

I think I got the SNHUG info in on time to be on the flyer. Would look good. We should bring the sign.

It looks like we have 6 signed up for this gig-Deb,June, Chris, David. UncleMike, and Art.

we will play about 30 minutes. Maybe 5-7 songs.

    I would like to do:
    Bad Moon Rising
    Blues, stay away from me
    Jamaica farewell
This land I wouldchoose the others from this list:
    Buttercup
    Last Kiss
    Little Dues coop

If there are any specific songs you would like to suggest that's great. just post the
    title,something we already know.

For the national anthem, Art and Iwill be playing the melody/harmony, When Art returns from the islands he will post chords.

This a pretty low key performance for the fair-goers.There will be some that will sit and watch but others will hear us as they are doind fair stuff.

If anyone else wants to come, you are very welcome. let me know. I would like to have one practice, at my house in Lee, sorryUncle Mike. I would feed you. Maybe on a weekend?

    August 24

  • Deb J.

Art, I listened to your anthem with 2 part uke harmony. I could definitely do a part. Lets see about interest if there were chords strumming behind that would really make it special I think after the picnic I will sit down and see what 5-6 songs seem best and see who is coming. Those to play at the fair can vote/discuss song choices. Yes, it was fun last year, maybe we should bring mic stands. I will see what or if a sound system is there. The hay bales worked okay but not great.

    August 13

    • Arthur (Art) M.

Deb. Must insist that you have first choice of parts. Sorry I am such a stubborn old fart. Mike is great for chords and we've played this at a group practice and sound great so would hope others could join in with chords. If you want separate melody and harmony parts it would be great to have microphones. What about vocals too? We should also have an emcee to announce, "Please rise for our National Anthem."

Deb, thanks for posting this. I had a great time last year. Even more fun than Kingston. You do a great job with the Starred Spangled Banner but I'd love to hear it in full ukulele and vocal version. If anyone is interested in parts I would put up MP3 files. One with melody. One with harmony. One with both and chord background too.
When is the other event with food and entertainment?
    Thanks Deb

Deb. Some of us were up there and played at an event in the Grange Hall. Remember the little boy with the fiddle who joined us and also played some incredible solo spots. Was that the Future Farmers of America (FFA) event. That was way fun. I want to do that one again.

Chris, maybe we can work on the sailor song for this gig? If anyone interested in doing this gig wants to have a rehearsal at my house, that would be great. Maybe an anthem crew?
