Doodletown - Spring Tune Up Continues

The trail through Doodletown is somewhat kind with a mild decline down the mountain to the cemetery.  But what goes down must come up and the climb up isn’t as gentle (keep in mind I’m not a fan of climbing and think all mountains should be flat).

With that said, Doodletown is a fun hike; approximately 3 miles in length round trip so it will be a piece of cake for this group.  The cemetery is filled with history and tales of the small town date back to the 1700’s when it was first settled.  For more information on Doodletown visit the NYNJ website page link:  www.nynjtc.org/historic/doodletown

Dogs are welcome on this hike.  Bring snacks if you’d like, plenty of water and of course wear sturdy hiking boots to support your ankles.  Dress according to Chris Cimino’s weather forecast.  Muddy trails will not cancel this hike but inclement weather will postpone it.

Please send me your cell # if I don’t already have it…  I’ll send your mine.

DINING:  A late lunch or early dinner will be enjoyed at the Barnstormer BBQ Restaurant conveniently located at 1076 Route 9W, Fort Montgomery, NY.  The Barnstormer is known for the best BBQ near the Bear Mountain Bridge and their fine selection of draft beer.  For more information visit their website at www.barnstormerbbq.com

CARPOOL:  Anyone interested?  Meet at the Chicago Uno parking lot conveniently located at 20 Centre Drive, Central Valley, NY.  Meet time:  12:30 p.m. Please put in your comments if you would prefer to be a driver or a passenger and remember….. Passengers should always tip their driver!

DIRECTIONS:  take exit 19 off the Palisades Interstate Parkway.  Merge onto Seven Lakes Drive.  Stay on Seven Lakes Drive for approximately .5 miles – parking lot is on the right.

$1 Meetup fee please

Thanks to everyone who made this a cornucopia filled fun day. The hike was great, the company was awesome (as always) and it was so much fun to connect with Dick Butkus' group at the Barnstormer! Another one for the books!

    Carol Ann,
If coming over the Rte 6 mountain, when I get to the circle is it the 1st Right? I thought that was 7 lakes drive. I mapquested it and it said "at the circle take the 3rd exit onto the US-6 E ramp to Bear Mountain." Does that mean going over the Bear Mountain Bridge? Sorry to ask so late.

If you're talking about the traffic circle at the end of Route 6, then you'd take the third exit off it, towards the Palisades Parkway north. (The first takes you on the wrong segment of the 7 Lakes Drive.) Continue on the Palisades for a very short distance and you'll see exit 19 and take it. This puts you on the short leg of 7 Lakes Drive. (The one that ends up in Bear Mountain.) Keep an eye for a small entrance to a parking area on your right, less than 0.5 miles down that road.

Is anyone going to carpool? I can't - heading to the trailhead from church so I'll be on the other side of the county.
