Hanning Peak and Rabbit Island

LAKE ISABELLA IS BEAUTIFUL!

Hiking Category

This is a short cross country hike located on the northwest corner of scenic Lake Isabella. We are hiking to the top of a small peak, and then hiking over to a small hill known as Rabbit Island to look for pictographs. Rabbit Island is normally surrounded by water, but since the lake is so low we can walk right over to it. This is a hike suitable for beginners or for hikers looking for a short adventure in the scenic Kern River Valley. The total distance is about 1.5 miles with an elevation gain of 650 feet.

Class What?

It is important that we all understand the rating system that organizers use on their hikes. For my hikes I generally use something close to the Yosemite Decimal System. I have seen many different versions of this system, and many are adamant that their version is the right version and etc.. The best description I have seen of the five classes that seems to encompass the most general idea may be found at Climber.org under ‘Five Classes of Climbing Difficulty’ ( click here ).

Darn. This sounds fun. But not on a weekday. :(
Plus too hard to drive up there by 8am for me. I wake up around that time. If on a Sat at 10-11am that would be great. Plus weather better.
I just got better after a 12 week battle with my health. Nearly passed on.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
