Hiking Plan

Unal Trail & Unal Peak

We will meet at the sand shed on the   Greenhorn Summit (35.738687, -118.556229) at 8:30. We will drive across the street and park at the trailhead where we will attempt to obtain a brochure, but if you have one already then please bring it. We will hike along the forested     Unal Trail (Trail of the Bear), and stop to read at each of the interpretive stations. There are numbered posts that identify the stations though some have fallen over and etc.. We will follow the trail until we reach "Unal Peak" (Jenkins, P75) (6838') (35.727702, -118.562181).  This trail makes a loop and is approx. 3.2 miles long.

There are some picnic tables at the trailhead where we can eat an early lunch before driving home.

Here is a video of a mountain biker on the trail.

Class What?

It is important that we all understand the rating system that organizers use on their hikes. For my hikes I generally use something close to the Yosemite Decimal System. I have seen many different versions of this system, and many are adamant that their version is the right version and etc.. The best description I have seen of the five classes that seems to encompass the most general idea may be found at Climber.org under ‘Five Classes of Climbing Difficulty’ ( click here ).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
