Trail of the Sequoias

Join us as we as meander amongst Sequoia groves in the Giant Forest Plateau. This hike is a 6-8 mile easy hike through numerous stands of giant sequoias.  The hike begins on the heavily used Congress trail from the General Sherman Tree parking lot but quickly leads away from the crowds as it passes through the heart of Sequoia National Park. Along the way we will pass several meadows before reaching our destination which is Crescent Meadow.  Once we arrive at Crescent meadow we will head back via a loop trail which will take us around Log Meadow, Tharp’s Log and numerous giant redwoods. At the end of the hike, if we have time, we may take side trips to Moro Rock summit and or hike out and back along the High Sierra trail which will offer us spectacular views of the High Sierras. Hope you can join us for what should be a great hike and fun day in Sequoia National Park.

Hiking the Sequoia Trail last spring

Critically important note: I am placing a limit of no more than 40 people for this hike and if you sign up for this hike and do not show you will be placed on a waiting list for future hikes. I am implementing this rule for this hike because I anticipate there may be a number of people who may want to go but cannot do to the limit and it is not fair they miss this hike due to a few irresponsible individuals who fail to change their RSVP.

My first hike and I had the greatest time. I am so sad that I can't go on another one this weekend and have to wait until the weekend of the 28th. I am not obsessive...Yet. Thanks you guys. Great balance of sites with a bit of strenuosity.

FYI, a small portion (5%) of the Congress trail will be closed because a fire has smoldered at the top of a centuries-old giant sequoia for more than a year. No, it wasn't from lightning, but a prescribed burn they did last year! Read more here: http://www.fresnobee.com/2013/07/08/3379309/fire-in-giant-sequoia-still-burning.html#storylink=cpy

    Pedro,
In order to be notified if two spots open up, you must RSVP, with +1 for your wife. You will be put on the waiting list. If two people drop out, Meetup will automatically put you on the attending list and send you an email that you are now eligible to go. It is all handled electronically and Bill will not monitor the list. If someone else RSVP's before you, they will be priority before you even though you have written this email. You must RSVP! There is usually at least 5% dropouts so you should be selected. Good luck....
    Tony

Folks, we may need to have a national park pass for each vehicle. I don't mind buying a yearly pass if someone is willing to drive. :D (I prefer not to drive; normally I would just ride my bike)

I will not be able to attend after all. However, I am not able to change my rsvp on the meetup. Scott or Bill can one of you change that for me? I know there is a waiting list. :)

A question to the hike organizer...Hello! I clicked on the "Join us" link and filled out the form last night so that I could join this hike. This necessitated my creating a profile because I hadn't signed onto the site before. Since my son and I planned to attend the hike together, he immediately submitted an RSVP fpr the hike after I finished signing on. Today I see the hike is full, and my name is not listed on the roster of attendees. My name should have been the first after the organizer to sign onto the hike. Do you have my name on the list? Perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong place. Any assistant you can provide would be much appreciated! ==Michele

Michele, go ahead and RSVP anyway. You will either be put on a waiting list or be part of the main group. That is the normal procedure. There are typically people who drop out for one reason or another and they change their RSVP to Not Going. Meetup will automatically bump people off a waitng list into the Going List as slots become available. It's first come, first served, with the Event Host having final say. Good luck, I'll check back later and see how it goes.

We RSVP'd for myself, my husband and one of our daughters (18). Her twin sister may be able to join us if she's not working that day. Will it be a problem to bring an additional guest if the hike has already reached its maximum?
