This hike is easily accessible from Bakersfield and only takes about an hour to get there. I would list the hike as moderate for the average hiker in our group but challenging for those who don't hike or exercise on a regular basis. The hike is slightly over 10 miles with an elevation gain of around 3500 feet.
For those leaving from Bakersfield we are meeting at the Chevron Station at the corner of 178 and 184 at 8:15, and we should be at the Cannell Trailhead (33E32) and hiking sometime between 9:15 to 9:30. For those coming from outside Bakersfield you can meet us at the Cannell trailhead around 9:15. The trailhead is located about a mile outside of Kernville on the right side of the road along the Sierra Way highway which is the highway which goes to Johnsondale Bridge.
Once we arrive at the trailhead we will spread out and then hike up the maintained and popular Cannell Trail. On the way through the four gates to the Powers Peak Turnoff [masked], [masked]) From there we will make the short but steep ascent past the chimney to the summit [masked], [masked])(5773').
View from Powers Peak
After enjoying the summit we will head back down the trail to the cars.
