Super Senior Whiskey Flat Trail Hike

This is a hike in celebration of our older members and friends who are still doing some awesome hiking!

Who can go: Fit hikers over 55 years of age. You must be able to complete 15 miles in about 8.5 hours, including breaks. A headlamp is mandatory equipment!

After leaving one or more vehicles at McNally's in Fairview, we will meet at the end of Burlando Road at 7:45 am for a one-way hike of the 14.5 mile Whiskey Flat trail. The trail ends at the Fairview footbridge next to McNally's. After the hike we will drive back to Kernville, retrieve the other vehicles, and have dinner somewhere in Kernville (since McNally's is closing on November 9th for the season).

We will develop carpooling arrangements as we get closer to the date.

Unsuitable weather will cancel or postpone this hike.

Meet you all at 6:15 at Chevron.

Now that we have 11 hikers, we will need three cars to be left at McNally's, unless one vehicle can fit 6 people. Bea or Kevin, can your vehicle fit six people, even if it's tight?

    November 22, 2013

  • Tony S.

I'll be at the Chevron at 6:15. I can fit 3 in my Tundra or ride.

  • Mike M

Would also like to carpool from the Chevron Station if possible. I can drive three others or provide $ for gas.

  • Alice K.

Jan, I will be at the Chevron station at 6:15am and would like to carpool. I can only take one extra person in my car or we can go in yours and I'm sure others will want to carpool as well.

    • Jan G.

OK...see you there and we will work it out.

      November 20, 2013

  • Jan G.

I'll be at the Chevron at a little before 6:15 in a little silver Honda Civic

Jan, right now we have enough volunteers to leave vehicles at the end of the trail, but you can help with the carpooling from the Chevron station. I think if you leave at 6:15 from the Chevron it will give plenty of time to get to the trailhead and get ready.

  • Jan G.

Oh I have a Honda Civic that seats 4 comfortably and 5 uncomfortably

I have been freed from my vegetable box pickup and am willing to hike and help

  • Alice K.

Is anybody carpooling from Bakersfield area (chevron on 178 near Commanche rd)?

    November 20, 2013

  • Deanne S.

I received the car shuttle request from Alice and volunteer to be one of the three people involved with the shuttle. I will be at McNallys Saturday morning at 7:00am to meet the other two volunteers. I can either leave my car there (Honda Civic with room for 4 passengers plus driver) and catch a ride back to Kernville with one of the other two volunteers, or drive the other two volunteers back to the Kernville trailhead.

Okay, okay, I will lower the official age to 54.5! But you youngsters under 55 will not be eligible for the Silver Sneaker award. And I hope you are ready to be called a Senior!

  • Bea C.

I'm 1 month shy of 55, but I am doing some awesome hiking so I think that counts :-) I don't remember any hills on that trail.

    November 18, 2013

  • Jan G.

    I can't go! :-( Won't be 55 until 3 months from now.

I just did the hike/run yesterday!! The Burger Run...the views were beautiful. Oh, and don't forget the ibuprofen for the hill descends, some of you may need it ;-)
