Please join me for the annual new years day hike through Nightmare Gulch in beautiful Red Rock Cyn. state Park. The hike is app. 9 miles.
First we hike up 3 slopes and enjoy a gorgeous view from the ridges.
Elevation is app. 3000'.
We then stroll down and enter the north end of Nighmare Gulch with a side trip into "Silent Secret City", and then exit the south end of the gulch and back to the cars.
The first half of the hike can be very strenious if you are not in good shape. 90% of the hike is cross country in sandy and rocky terrain.
Layered clothing is recommended. Bring lots of water, snack and lunch. Dogs should be left at home, but if you insist on bringing pooch, he/she must me on a leach at all times, no exeptions!
Total elevation gain/loss is app 1100'
Meet at the south/west corner of Hwy. 14 and Abbott Dr. 9am.
The hike starts app. 1/2 mile further north on Hwy. 14 on the east side, but parking there is limited so carpooling is recommended.
This hike is listed with several other hiking groups and also listed on the California State Park's website under "first day" hikes. We usually end up with 40-60 participants.
Good for you :-)
