We don't need to shop...Let's go hiking , that's what we need to burn off the extra mashed potatoes and that second piece of pie! I have just the solution! Slide Mountain, the hike everyone only seems to want to do once. While this hike offers great views of a number of local lakes and a great workout the main reason to do this one is just to point it out to people as you drive by and tell them you hiked up to it.

Location of Lookout: Coordinates (A,2) on Angeles National Forest Map Legal Location: T.6N, R.18W Section 10
The Lookout is a two-story metal Lookout with the cab on top. It was built in association with the construction of Pyramid Reservoir. It has vistas of Interstate 5 and the Sespe Wilderness. Slide Mountain Lookout tower is accessed from the end of the Templin Hwy which is north of Santa Clarita off of the I-5. The trail is accessed by walking on a closed portion of the Templin Hwy for a bit over a mile and then it's a fire road and trail to the tower. You can see the tower from the 5 freeway. There will be some amazing views from the top.
PARKING PASS REQUIRED As with all National Forest Land a parking pass is required and can be purchased at Sport Chalet, Big 5 and other places. $5/day or $30/yr. You will get a ticket here.
Directions: From Bakersfield: Take the 99 to I-5 south. On the 5 freeway go about 20 miles south of Gorman and exit at Templin Hwy. Go right, and then right again (north) at the end on what Mapquest calls the Golden State Hwy. Take this to the end, this is Frenchman’s Flat.
