A Day Hike

Driving Directions:

We will meet at the Indian Wells Lodge at 7:00 AM, and then carpool to the trailhead which should take about 30 minutes.

Hiking Plan

Owens

We will drive up and locate the parking area [masked], [masked]), and then hike past the barricade along the old road which eventually becomes a trail. We will continue on this trail up the canyon to the top of Owens Peak [masked], [masked]). This section is 7 miles with an elevation gain of 3200’.

Five Fingers

After returning to the vehicles we will drive back to the Five Fingers Trailhead [masked], [masked]). We will make the steep ascent to the fingers, and then climb Aquila [masked], [masked]). This section is 2 miles with an elevation gain of 1600’.

From there we will carpool back down to the Lodge where we can purchase more of those delicious beverages that they make there.

It was an awesome day and even more awesome mountain! Rugged skree mixed with granite slabs and full bloom foliage made for a challenging and beautiful day. We even got buzzed by a glider passing overhead and then banking through the saddle between Owens and Mt. Jenkins. Thanks Nathan.

The people that I hike with are just second to none they make it fun,and the beautiful day and awsome scenery make it even better its like a vacation. Its so good to live so close to these beautiful mountains to be able to go out every weekend you cant ask for any more than that. I almost dont want to hike alone anymore when you have good people to hike with and I wish we can have some new people to come along with us,were getting new members almost everyday and I want to meet them and hike with them.

Don't forget to visit the pictograph rock on the way back down. If you take the shortcut, the trail goes right beside the picto rock.

Hi Glenn. If you read the earlier comments, you'll see that we already decided on 5:15 for the meeting time at Starbucks.

Alice I remember the ride fondly. It was a rip roaring good time. ;) Tony I'm sure it will be fine. 4-5 can fit in the cab and 3-4 in the bed with the backpacks and gear. Luckily your truck has a large bed. The key is to be safe and not to drive on the dirt roads too fast.

Rafael and I have done this ride in the back of a truck before, remember, Rafa?

At the bottom in fine print "Full Site", then you can see the "talk about this meetup" section (on an iphone) and add a comment.
So.... right now, I have the only high clearance vehicle? Is it safe/legal/comfortable for someone to ride in the back with all the packs and poles? Just asking....

Tony couldn't post here from his i-phone for some reason, but says he will drive. Glenn might go also. Glenn, why haven't you clicked the "I'm Going" button?

  • Alice

Okay, I'll be at Starbucks at 5:15. We need high clearance vehicles. Tony, are you okay with driving?

Rafael, Tony, and Alice, lets meet to carpool at 5:15 from Starbucks on 58 and Weedpatch, (as per Alices' suggestion). We will meet Nathan and Steve at the 14.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
