BOHNA PEAK FEATURES DENSE TREES!
This hike is easily accessible from Bakersfield. It is short but strenuous in places due to the intense elevation gain. There is a brief class 1 section at the beginning, and then it turns into class 2 as we hike towards the summit. The whole hike is 3.8 miles with an elevation gain of 1975 feet. Though it is not always easy to predict, this hike should not take more than 4 hours so we should all be driving home in the early evening.

We are meeting at the campground, and then heading northeast along the creek for about a quarter mile. If we are lucky then the ladybugs will be out by the millions near the creek, and that is interesting to see and photograph. After that we begin walking northeast up the side of Bohna Peak (6788'). The elevation gain in this section is very intense, so be prepared and bring lots of water as it may be hot. The trees are also very dense in this section, and the undergrowth can be high in places so wear gaiters if you have them. We will stay together, and maintain an easy pace with frequent breaks. In a short time we will reach the summit of Bohna Peak [masked], [masked]). We will probably sit around for awhile, and then make our way back down which takes a surprisingly short period of time.

It is important that we all understand the rating system that organizers use on their hikes. For my hikes I generally use something close to the Yosemite Decimal System. I have seen many different versions of this system, and many are adamant that their version is the right version and etc..
