Patch Corner Trail & Picnic near the Kern River at China Gardens

HIKING IN THE KERN RIVER VALLEY IS AMAZING!

Hiking Category

This is mostly a class 1 hike with some class 2 possible. Essentially this means that most of the hike is on a trail, but that there might be a small amount of cross country if the trail is overgrown in areas. This hike is two miles or less with an elevation gain of less than 300 feet, and it runs parallel to the Kern River. We should get some great pictures!

Hiking Plan

  • We will drive a short distance to the trailhead [masked], [masked]).

  • We will have a picnic somewhere near the river there.

  • We will decide whether to hike a little further or head back to the vehicles.

Class What?

It is important that we all understand the rating system that organizers use on their hikes. For my hikes I generally use something close to the Yosemite Decimal System. I have seen many different versions of this system, and many are adamant that their version is the right version and etc.. The best description I have seen of the five classes that seems to encompass the most general idea may be found at Climber.org under ‘Five Classes of Climbing Difficulty’ ( click here ).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
