Hi Jill,
Not sure what happened, but I announced your event again.  You should be able to edit it without having to re-announce it???  Were you doing this from your Meetup App on your phone?  No big deal just trying to figure out the ins and outs of the program.
Looks like fun, maybe we'll be able to do the full circle this time!  :-)

Subject: [Kern-Tulare-Hikers] New Meetup: Owl Canyon/ Rainbow Basin Hike Plus Climbing Opportunity

Announcing a new Meetup for Southern Sierra Hiking Club!
What: Owl Canyon/ Rainbow Basin Hike Plus Climbing Opportunity
When: Saturday, November 2,[masked]:30 AM
Where: Starbucks
420-A Weedpatch Highway
Bakersfield, CA 93307
This is a Kern River Valley Hiking Club classic. The rock formations, colors and low elevation make it a perfect cool-weather hike.
The plan: We will carpool to and park at Owl Canyon Campground. We hike north up the beautiful desert canyon about 4 miles until it opens up into desert hills. We then begin a steeper ascent to the top of a plateau overlooking the colorful Rainbow Basin. We then turn southwest descending along a ridge into a beautiful slot canyon. We will visit several other short impassable slot canyons including one with two natural tunnels and then hike over a ridge and back to Owl Canyon for approx. 8 miles round trip. This is considered an intermediate hike with some class 2 scrambling/climbing.  For pictures and more details visit Ranger Tarol's site  at:
Also, see pictures from this hike scheduled in February of 2011
For those who wish to carpool, we will meet at Starbuck's on Weedpatch Hwy (see above) at 6:30 am These are directions for those who want to drive themselves to the Trail head: East on Hwy 58 towards Barstow, left on Lenwood Rd, right on Old Hwy 58 (Santa Fe Ave) for 6 miles, left on Irwin Rd., for 5 miles, left on Fossil Bed Road for 3 miles to Rainbow Basin Loop Road, turn right and travel 1 mile to Owl Canyon road, turn right and travel about 2 miles to the campground. We will begin hiking at 8:30 AM.
Climbers, a group of us will be spending the night near by and climbing at New Jack City on Sunday.  New Jack City is a popular climbing destination south of Barstow.  It offers climbers of all levels great rock and varied single pitch sport routes.
Minimum requirements: You must know how to belay someone.  You must own all of your own personal climbing gear: helmet, shoes, harness, ATC, Personal Pro (ie: sling and locking carabiner)
If you are interested in participating in the climbing portion of this meet-up, please email me with a brief description of your skill set and what gear you can share (ie: rope, draws)  How many climbers can participate will depend upon how many leads with ropes sign up.
