For many years I had regular Friday night social gatherings of close friends. We'd often vent our frustrations at the stupidity of the system around us that glorified superficial choices and failed to support people.  Sometimes we just hung out, other times we'd work on a project together.  We'd show up at a friends house with five vehicles for  a one-day household move that ended with pizza and laughter instead of frustration and stubbed toes.  We had movie nights and made mead and hosted dinner parties.  It was a good run.  But people move, times change, and so one builds again.  I am hoping to find other intelligent, fascinating, slightly geeky, alternative, liberal, semi-spiritual people with whom to build a strong base.

So many of us work a day job every week then come home, exhausted, only to start up again the next morning.  Fitting in a fulfilling social life is tough.  For a lot of us, it's made tougher by our lack of interest in church or mainstream religion.  What's left without artificial structures?   It is my intention to create connections that can grow into more than occasional friends and into a community of like minded folks who know there is a need in the human animal for something other than office-mates and paying bills.  If you love movies like XMen to the Avengers, Lord of the Rings to Avatar; if you know what D&D means and are as comfortable with your gay friends as you are with straights; if you enjoy a night in with conversation as much as a day at a country fair; and if you prefer lasting friendships over office acquaintances, this may be the group for you.

A little about me: I come from a background that could be described as a mix of secular humanism, paganism, and new age spirituality with a few years of Catholic school tossed in for good measure.  I have survived a number of physical injuries with profound effects on my personality.  I have a low tolerance for bullshit and a super-busy, full life that I'm always jamming more into.  I have explored several religions and found an inner spiritual path works better for me than dogma.  I often get along better with agnostics and atheists than firm believers because I believe all paths have value and there is no one true way.  I have been part of intentional community, lived alone, and given up a huge part of my life to help family in need.  Each experience has put life and the value of friendships in solid perspective.  People are not solitary animals.  Yet we live in a society that asks us to be islands.  To this, I say: NO.

I want more than my day job, second job, and quasi-work.  Don't you?
