Friday is a Free day for the APBA Gold Cup races along the Detroit river.

I have held this meetup for the last two years.   Last year from the pit area and the year before from Henderson Park and got lots of good pictures. This year I think I will opt for Henderson park again.   The pit and Grand stand area was a little restrictive.   Without a pit pass they did not want you filming the pit area, even though there was great vantage points along the side of the grand stands.   They wanted you doing your photography only from sitting in the grandstands.    I will not charge the usual $5.00 meetup fee for this event. We can park at Henderson Park.   There is no fence to get in the way of taking great photo's.  For more information go to the official APBA web page at www.gold-cup.com

Johnnie I hear you were on Belle Isle. Sorry you didn't join us, would still like to see some of your shots. When I got home and downloaded the camera, I had over 600 shots I posted the best dozen.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Meet up. I hope to see a few of your photo's posted real soon. This is a good spot, that's why I come back each year. Parking was good. There was a vender selling hotdogs ect. and they had portable restrooms that were clean. The site could have been cleaner, but it was still very good.

The 160mph boats were really exciting. I was able to get full frame shots with my 300mm lens. I never knew I could do this without paying the big ticket, dealing with crowds or even how close I could get. Thank you Orma. It was nice seeing you and chatting with everyone. I could only stay a couple hours but know I walked away with some good shots and enjoyed myself.

As expected it was a great event. I claimed a spot on top of a hill, just a few steps to the river. I one or two new photographers. perhaps some new future members. Lisa it was great meeting and chatting with you. For the demonstration aircraft they had I think an old British Chipmunk. I missed most of the flight only arriving near the end. I did not see any of the other members.

Although I said to bring a long lens, please don't get the impression that without a big long lens that you can't get good pictures. That's not true. My shoots with a Canon power shot SX260HS. It's a pocket sized point and shoot. With digital zoom it shoots pictures that are really good when compared to my kit lens which is a 55-250. Come on out and enjoy the river and the power boats

Only two days left. I plan to bring my longest lens, a tripod, a cooler with some drinks and snacks, and a folding chair. I might leave the tripod and bring the Monopod. But, the big lens requires support. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you there.

How long is your lens? I'm wondering how much I can get with only 300mm.

Only 6 days left until the free day for the APBA power boats. Come see and photograph these 200 mph boats during the time trials. It's a thrill to watch these boats. Perhaps you'll get lucky and get to see one go airborne as it skips across the water. For the past two years they open the days activity with high speed passes by a jet aircraft.

I'd like to welcome our new members and thank you for signing up for this great event. I love the action of the boats skipping past and making the large rooster tails. Great time for some action shots. Each year the boats change a little bit. A new paint job at the minimum. This will be my third time going to the event. Hope to meet all of you there.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
