Forage with Deen Greene

This event is not free and is not exclusive to the Region 6 group. We don't like to normally promote paid classes, but these classes have been very popular in the past, the instructor has very specialized knowledge and he only visits this area a few times a year.

Greene Deane is having a wild food foraging class at Dreher park on November 18th (Sunday)

If you are interested go to his site and register.  Some people attending may be preppers, but others are just outdoors and gardening enthusiasts.

When: Sunday, September 30th, Dreher Park, 1310 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach, 33405, 9 a.m.

Loved it. Great experience tasting the weeds - not enough for lunch though.

If you want to take really close up pics, get a magnifier glass and place it in front of the lense, then back the plant away until it is in focus. Most cameras (point and shoot type) don't let you close up to easy. Also, he has 135+ videos on his website if you want to do a little homework. The field book is a great idea, movies are also good. If you just take a pic and write down the name, when you get home you can look on his website and write down all the details as well as a great botanical description, then go out and look for it again. When I took botany, this was the best way to cement a plant into my head.

If you go, take a camera, some index cards and a sharpie to label and photograph plants onsite. Take a notebook for notes. Photograph plants up close with index card labels in the picture. Pick sample leaves and place in notebook for later reference. There are way too many plants and details to remember. Don't be afraid to ask questions. He is not prepper specific. He does not cover anything medicinal. Expect about 4 hours of walking and be sure to take water.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
