This discussion group will explore the religion and theology of the television series Battlestar Galactica (2005 to 2009 on the SciFi Channel) which is central to its plot. BSG is, in and of itself, a theological text with Christian implications. Over the course of the 87 episodes, the series delves into the meaning of salvation, prophecy, exile, apocalypse, resurrection, and messianism, as well as a concept of a divine will (one or plural). The textbook for the group will be Kevin J. Wetmore, Jr.'s The Theology of Battlestar Galactica: American Christianity in the[masked] Television Series (190 pages). The book offers a systematic theology of each BSG invented religion and survey echoes of American Christianity. Participants should have seen at least the first three episodes.
