While not technically a "Soviet" film, East-West is a film produced in the '90s chronicling the return, following WWII, of Russians/Ukrainians who emigrated to the West after the revolution. It follows a doctor, Alexei (Oleg Menshikov) who brings his French family to Odessa. They are all shocked to see how bad the conditions are compared to France, and the wife insists on returning right away. As we all know, leaving the Soviet Union at that time was not merely a matter of "wanting to" and Alexei quickly realized that he would have to climb the ranks of the Soviet hierarchy to make this possible.
Catherine Deneuve also has a small role.

This is probably my favorite film ever and I am not feeling inspired to do more research on actual Soviet films I haven't seen. Let's discuss possible other films to watch next at the meeting.
The movie will start at 7, so come at 6:30 only if you feel like chatting a bit before. I'll have snacks and wine as usual.
Also please make sure to update your RSVP as needed. Nobody showed up to the last one, although 12 had current "going" RSVPs. That really dissuades me from organizing these things.
