Please consider planning some hikes at least 1/2 way between Melbourne & Vero - Wed or Sat - between now & last Wed of March or mid Apr - mid May. I'm in Vero, so Melbourne area is a long way to haul! I haven't been able to find any hiking groups in the Vero area. This is only my 2nd winter here so not familiar w/ hiking areas, but would be happy to research some if needed.

    Thanks!

For some trails in the south, look at www.outintheboonies.com specifically the south trails and Oslo Riverfront, Blue Cypress, Fprt Drum and the St. Sebastian Buffer Preserve. Hope this helps.

I will be doing an April 16 hike at Micco scrub in Micco and an April 30 hike on the South Beaches Trails near Sebastian Inlet.

Small problem with this year's trail, they just burned it. Not to worry, we'll just do the other loop, click on the map link above and we can do the one marked in red, most people consider that a better trail anyway. I didn't check much of the trail, there were so many fires going that I spent all my time driving around checking them, what I did check was in perfect shape so I think the rest will be fine. Anyhow, meet at Sam's in Melbourne on hwy 192 just off I-95 at 8:30 AM, the drive to the trail is about 50 miles so it will be after 9:30 when we get there. The trail will start at the parking lot by the bridge a couple miles from the entrance. There is a six dollar fee per car to enter so carpool away, pay at the kiosk. The trail is about six miles long but we get to the Dry Pond Campground at about noon so bring lunch. Almost all of the trail is in forest so sun will not be a problem but a hat and sunscreen might be a good idea anyway. Bring lunch, snacks and something to drink.

I volunteer on Mondays and Wednesdays, so those two days will always be unavailable for me. Looking forward to Saturday.
